The location of Salmon Cottage is highly praised for being close to the sea, harbour, and village pubs. Its setting in the heart of Staithes is considered ideal by guests, contributing to a very positive experience.

The cottage is appreciated for its well-equipped kitchen and amenities like a coffee machine and board games. As mentioned in our last two reviews, the cottage is in a superb location, with lots of places to eat in the village, and within a short drive of Saltburn, Runswick Bay and Whitby. The new door locks work well, but it would be nice to have two front door keys. Also, a replacement clothes horse would be very welcome to dry beach towels.

The cottage is in a great location and is very homely and well appointed. We had a wonderful week here and would recommend it. Staithes was a lovely, quaint little place to use as a base from which to explore the Yorkshire Coast and moors. Im it’s own right it has lovely walks, views and eateries.

Nestled away in the sleepy seaside village of Staithes, this spacious and well appointed property features lots of levels and stairs, a deep sense of calm and quiet and a relaxing warm welcome from its cosy kitchen, comfy sitting room, spacious bedrooms and wonderful (recently refurbished?) bathrooms. The property was clean and tidy when we arrived, and the instructions given by Sykes to access the keys were accurate and straightforward. There was a welcome pack of tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival which was nice - perhaps some long life milk might have helped too - we arrived late without basic provisions, and there wasn't a shop close by to purchase the essentials (milk, bread, butter etc). Salmon Cottage is well appointed and good quality towels and bed linen made for a pleasant stay. The beds were well made and very comfortable, making it a pleasure to go to bed, and easy to lie in for a rest in the mornings. The bathrooms on the first floor are very nicely finished, with a massive walk in shower in the en-suite and a dinky but big enough for 2 bath and shower in the family bathroom on the same level. The kitchen was a pleasure to be in, well equipped and a lovely big range style cooker. The long wooden table was ideal for family meals and conversations about the day's events over dinner. We enjoyed our short stay - Staithes is lovely (even the seagulls were charming in the end) although a little hollowed out by holiday lets ;) We spent money in all of the local establishments, including a souvenir from Staithes Gallery, so hopefully have contributed something to the local economy. I think it would be an interesting place in winter, although I wonder what Salmon Cottage might be like when the wind picks up. That said, it would be very cosy with a fire in the wood-burner, and very romantic to be tucked up in bed with the wind howling around, especially as the walls are thick and there is double glazing to most (if not all) windows. We would certainly recommend Salmon Cottage for family groups - it is very nicely located in the village, and very easy to get to. The beach at Staithes is small, but suitable for all ages and accessible for most. There is a sense of history around the place and the little pockets of endeavour make it interesting (e.g. fudge shop, galleries, places to eat and drink, the fact it is a working port). From Staithes you are but a stone's throw from Whitby (10 minutes in the car, or 20 by X4 bus from the top of the hill) and Robins Hood Bay isn't far. For us, perhaps the best thing was the way in which time slowed down and we were able to catch our breath and relax, even with the caw-caw of the gull population entertaining us (it is the sea-side I suppose!). We came away feeling very refreshed and happy to have stayed somewhere so nice - that says it all! All credit to the owner (Sara) for setting it up so well. Thank you for your hospitality, which we will certainly recommend to friends and family.
