Stonegarth is a rustic, three-storey holiday cottage set amongst the cobbled streets of the picture-perfect village of Staithes, North Yorkshire. Boasting a history dating back 200 years and enjoying a central location in the village, Stonegarth makes an idyllic base for both families and friends seeking a coastal getaway. Kick off your shoes as you step inside and enter into the snug sitting room, traditionally-decorated with original exposed stonework and a warming woodburning stove, providing a lovely spot to unwind in front of the Smart TV following a day exploring the delights of North Yorkshire. Climb a handful of stone steps and discover the open-plan kitchen/diner tucked away at the rear of the holiday home, fit with a fabulous range of amenities including an electric oven and hob to prepare delicious meals throughout your staycation alongside a handy washing machine and dishwasher to help keep your space neat and tidy! Uncork a bottle of wine and gather together with your loved ones at the wooden dining table taking centre stage in the sociable space to indulge in a hearty meal or carry the conversation into the late evening with a game of cards. Climbing the stairs to the first floor, you'll discover the first of two well-presented bedrooms, a sumptuous double room nestled alongside the contemporary family bathroom, whilst a twin bedroom is positioned under the sloped ceiling of the second floor. Benefiting from a central location, there's a plethora of delicious eateries resting a short walk from your doorstep, perfect for those evenings where you fancy a break from doing the cooking; enjoy a spot of pub grub at The Royal George, savour fresh seaside cuisine with a view across the coastline at The Cod & Lobster or add a touch of luxury to your break with a spot of afternoon tea at Dotty's Vintage Tearoom. Stroll alongside the colourful buildings that decorate the cobbled streets and head towards the old harbour, where you can watch the world go by with a view across the North Sea, or spend lazy days lounging on the beach. Travel along the coast toward the popular seaside town of Whitby, where you can climb the iconic 199 steps to reach Whitby Abbey, famed as the inspiration behind Bram Stokers Dracula, tour the exhibitions showcasing the maritime life of Captain Cook at the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, or embark on a two-footed adventure along The Cinder Track through the peaceful countryside towards Robin Hood's Bay. Travel further north and discover Saltburn-by-the-Sea, where you can tour the formal grounds of Saltburn Valley Gardens, test your swing with a game of golf at the towns 18-hole course, or try your luck at the amusement arcades aboard the pier. With so much to see and do, whisk your loved ones away on a memorable retreat to Stonegarth.
The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an rnli lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
