About this property

Lilac Cottage is nestled in the delightful village of Wombleton, North Yorkshire, enveloped around an abundance of hiking and biking trails, courtesy of being easily accessible to North York Moors National Park. It is an idyllic base for families seeking to immerse themselves in the Yorkshire countryside. Upon entry, be delighted by the characterful interior with exposed wooden beams and original furniture pieces, providing a perfect blend of comfort and character. The generous kitchen is ideal to whip up delicious meals together, with an array of marvellous amenities. When it's time to serve, indulge in some family bonding around the dining table as you plan the following day's itinerary. Afterwards, curl up in the living room with your favourite programme on the TV as the evening's entertainment. When nighttime rolls around, retire in a double or a twin room on the first floor, making it a real haven for easy and convenient living. In the morning, get ready in style at the dressing table in the double bedroom, before indulging in your morning coffee outdoors amidst the occasional bird song. Stroll to Beadland Grange Farm shop for some fresh breakfast and purchase your evening stock. Bird watchers will be thrilled by the National Centre for Bird of Prey, and be mesmerized by hawks, eagle owls, and other birds of prey. For the adrenalin junkies, head to Flamingo Land Resort with a plethora of rides, big and small, as well as a zoo home to unique species, all while contributing to conservation. Immerse yourself in the healing powers of North York Moors National Park by experiencing the great outdoors in every aspect; meander through the sandy coastlines at Runswick Bay, attend one of the many village shows/ music events, skim through the treetops at Go Ape, surf, bike, kayak, horse ride around the surroundings, or indulge in the monuments just bursting with heritage, truly showcasing the versatility of the landscape. Head to the Howardian Hills National Landscape and explore the friendly villages scattered around, taste-test the local delicacies, and grab a keepsake at one of the independent boutiques. Photographers and history-lovers will enjoy a tour of Castle Howard House and Grounds, or the National Trust Nunnington Hall, with picture-postcard landscapes at every angle. Lilac Cottage invites you to book a stay near the North York Moors National Park for a memory-filled holiday.

A small characteristic village in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, Beadlam is unusual in that it is directly joined onto another village, Nawton, together commonly known as Nawton Beadlam. The village offers a pub serving food and a local fish and chip shop. Nearby, about 3 miles away, is the prestigious market town of Helmsley, historically renowned for having its own 12th century castle. There is excellent walking on the doorstep with the national trail, Cleveland Way, starting in Helmsley, which has fabulous views of the coast and ancient stone crosses. Further afield approximately 10 miles east is the historic market town of Pickering, which is home to a wider range of amenities and traditional shops. York is less than an hour’s drive south, as is Scarborough, Whitby and the east coast. Whatever you decide to do, there is a plenty of choice for you to enjoy!

Unfortunately the water heater failed at the beginning of our stay (probably before we arrived) but was repaired the same day that we reported it so we were able to enjoy the excellent separate shower in the bathroom. Wombleton is a good base for Rievaulx Terrace and Abbey, Nunnington Hall and Helmsley, Pickering and Scarborough castles as well as the North York Moors Railway. There a handy circular walk past the pub and back down Page Lane for anyone with a dog (with 3 dog pooh bins). At dusk there are bats in Page Lane.

The local pub eating house is literally a 5 minute walk from the cottage . I would certainly think about using this for a longer time next time because it is a lovely area with so much to see.
