No. 4 Steading Cottage is a beautifully presented, spacious, and open-plan holiday home finished to an exceptional standard in a peaceful rural location just 8 miles south west of Banchory. Spread over two floors, the cottage comfortably accommodates up to seven guests. For larger groups, the adjoining and identical No. 5 Cottage can also be rented, creating a versatile space perfect for gatherings of all ages. Located within a collection of properties in a converted Victorian farm steading, the cottage sits on the stunning Glen Dye Estate in the heart of Aberdeenshire. This tranquil retreat is surrounded by rolling hills, ancient woodlands, and the serene River Dye, offering a truly picturesque escape.
With its spacious kitchen/diner, No. 4 Steading Cottage is perfect for entertaining. Just a few steps away, the sitting room, complete with a wood stove, provides a cosy retreat overlooking the private courtyard, an ideal spot to relax after a meal. For those who enjoy al fresco dining, the courtyard is equipped with a Big Green Egg BBQ, a pizza oven, and outdoor seating. For ultimate relaxation, take a short 50 metre stroll along a woodland path to the private wood-fired hot tub bath, a serene way to unwind after a day of exploring.
The famous whisky and castle routes are close by, as is Royal Deeside, where the Royal Family’s Balmoral Castle is a must-see destination. The charming Cairngorm villages of Ballater and Braemar are a short drive away, offering history, boutique shops, and inviting cafés. Whisky enthusiasts can visit the nearby Lochnagar Distillery, renowned for its exquisite single malts, or Fettercairn Distillery, which showcases rich whisky-making heritage in a delightful village setting.
Outdoor activities abound right from your doorstep, with the estate’s walking and mountain biking trails offering the chance to explore ancient woodlands, open moorlands, or enjoy a leisurely stroll along the crystal-clear waters of the River Dye.
The surrounding area is rich with opportunities for outdoor adventures. Highlights include the Cateran Trail, a long-distance walking route, and Mount Battock, Scotland’s most easterly Munro, which offers a rewarding climb. The Cairngorms National Park, with its dramatic mountain landscapes, ancient pine forests, and abundant wildlife, is also nearby. A visit to Loch Muick, with its serene waters and scenic trails, makes for a perfect day out. Alternatively, pack a lunch and explore Glas-allt-Shiel, a historic lodge built for Queen Victoria in 1868, set in one of the Highlands' most spectacular locations.
For mountain biking enthusiasts, nearby Drumtochty Forest, Scolty Hill, and the superb Tarland Trails, just 30 minutes away by car, offer exciting trails for all skill levels.
The cottage is also an excellent base for exploring the stunning Aberdeenshire coastline. A visit to Stonehaven and the dramatic ruins of Dunnottar Castle, perched above the crashing waves of the North Sea, offers a striking contrast to the Cairngorms. Equally contrasting is Aberdeen, the Granite City, where you’ll find a vibrant urban experience blending maritime heritage, modern cultural attractions, and bustling markets.
Winter sports enthusiasts can head to the Glenshee Ski and Snowboard Centre, which boasts the UK’s most extensive skiing and snowboarding facilities.
For anglers, the tranquil River Dye is renowned for its trout, while the nearby River Dee, one of Scotland’s premier salmon rivers, offers a world-class angling experience and the chance to reel in a prize catch.
