Guests appreciate its proximity to local amenities, cleanliness, and dog-friendly environment. The lodge offers a comfortable and relaxing holiday experience, with some minor feedback on maintenance and furnishings.
Most guests found the lodge clean and tidy, though there were some concerns about dust, dog hair, and cobwebs. The grass was cut during a stay, but the clippings were left behind, causing minor inconvenience.
The lodge's location is highly praised for its quiet setting near nature reserves, the estuary, pubs, and cafes. It serves as an excellent base for exploring nearby villages, towns, and attractions.
Guests describe their stay as comfortable and relaxing, with spacious interiors. However, some guests noted that the furniture, particularly the king size bed, could be updated for better comfort.
The lodge is well-equipped with a kitchen, bathroom amenities, and a washing machine. A new BBQ was appreciated, but there were comments about tired furnishings and the need for some maintenance.
Guests were pleased with the thoughtful welcome pack and local information provided. While such gestures are warmly received, it's important to note that these are not guaranteed for every stay.
Birchlea offers spacious and comfortable holiday accommodation set in the landscaped grounds of a small private group of Norwegian Lodges just a short walk from the shore front in the picturesque seaside village of Kippford. The lodge is finished and furnished to a high standard and has a large unfenced garden together with deck seating area which over looks a small lochan.
Kippford is a well-known sailing centre and there are numerous coast and forest walks in the local area including easy access to the near by Dalbeattie woods with way marked walks and more strenuous mountain bike trails which form part ot the 7Stanes Forestry Commission routes. The local area provides outstanding opportunities for exploring South West Scotland including Threave Castle and National Trust for Scotland Threave Gardens, together with slightly further afield Sweetheart Abbey at New Abbey and the Mill on the Fleet at Gatehouse of Fleet. Opportunities for watching wildlife are plentiful either while enjoying beach and cliff top walks around Kippford and adjoining Rockcliffe or further afield at rspb Mersehead which is a Mecca for winter Wildfowl but is also worth visiting in summer for the beach.

Birchlea is a lovely property, very warm and comfortable, the kitchen is very well equipped to self cater. High end linens and very comfy beds, we had a fabulous week stay, would definitely return and highly recommend.

The location of the lodge is perfect. Quiet and a short walk to the amenities on the sea front of Kippford. The lodge is very well equipped with everything you need in the kitchen. Lovely thick bathroom towels. Washing machine and tumble dryer were useful, as was the outside washing line. Plenty of board games available too. The slight disappointment was the cleanliness. Very dusty in places, lots of dog hair on blankets and under furniture and a lot of cobwebs. The en-suite shower didn’t drain properly because the drain hole was full of hair. The windows were dirty and the grass needed cutting. The grass was cut during the week we were there but all the cuttings were left on the surface so we had no option but to walk through it which meant we had to sweep up constantly as it came inside. There was a brand new BBQ which was appreciated. The furniture is all a bit tired and in need a replacing. You could feel the springs on the king size bed. We walked from Kippford to Rockcliffe, a lovely walk some of which is uphill. There are a couple of pubs on the seafront in Kippford and a small cafe/shop which serves great coffe as well as other things. Kippford is a great base for visiting all the places to see in the area. Threave Gardens and Kircudbright are recommended. There are great beaches at Rockcliffe and Sandyhills.

Comfortable lodge in idillic surroundings with communal pond. 100 yards from nature reserve walk 500 yards from estuary, pub and cafe . Multitude of small villages and towns in easy driving distance ( 6 to 20 mile ) Lodge has large veranda around the accommodation with three exits, one with ramp. We used some if the garden furniture to block exits re our terrier that likes to chase rabbits 😂 Yes I would return
