Coire-Dhiubh is a well-received cottage with stunning views and local wildlife, including regular visits from deer. Guests appreciate the clean, well-equipped property, thoughtful touches like dog treats, and the scenic location ideal for exploring the Highlands. While most reviews are positive, some guests have reported issues with comfort due to the beds and maintenance concerns.

Cleanliness

The majority of guests have praised the property for its cleanliness, noting it was very clean and well-maintained. Only one review mentioned a dirty mark, which seems to be an isolated incident.

Location

The location is consistently described as incredible, scenic, and ideal for exploring the Highlands. The proximity to local attractions like the 'Hogwarts Express' viaduct is a highlight, although one review mentioned a nearby construction site.

Comfort

While many guests found the property comfortable and the beds satisfactory, there are several complaints about the master bed's comfort and mattress quality, which lowers the score in this category.

Facilities

Facilities are generally well-regarded, with the property being well-equipped and having a modern kitchen. However, some guests reported issues with the garden's fencing, steps, and a broken kitchen bin, indicating room for improvement in maintenance.

Thoughtfulness

Guests have mentioned thoughtful items left by the owners, such as dog treats and bird feed. However, as these gifts are not guaranteed for every stay, they are a delightful bonus rather than a standard offering.

About this property

Enjoying a beautiful position affording stunning mountain scenery and just a stone's throw from Loch Shiel, Coire-Dhiubh is a truly tranquil retreat nestled in the hamlet of Glenfinnan in the Scottish Highlands. Offering a family of six a homely and welcoming base for their Highland adventures, Coire-Dhiubh is a detached property boasting a traditional feel and is within reach of a host of popular attractions, including the magnificent Glenfinnan Viaduct. Once you have arrived at your secluded spot just off the main road, park up in the ample space and head up the steps to the door, before kicking off your boots and hanging coats in the handy porch entrance. Continue through into the living/dining room and delight in the classic style surrounding you, with large windows affording you dinner with a view from the dining table, and traditional tartan carpet leading you to the sitting area where a woodburning stove can warm you in the winter months before the TV. In the next room is a wonderful fitted kitchen, offering plenty of preparation space along with a host of appliances, including a double electric oven and a halogen hob, with a convenient dishwasher and washer/dryer too! From here you can find the ground-floor bedroom, featuring a double bed which is served by the ground-floor shower room, great for those with limited mobility. Head upstairs to find the remaining bedrooms, with a twin room great for friends or children and the master double bedroom boasting its very own en-suite shower room, while a relaxing moment can be enjoyed within the family bathroom where a large freestanding bath tub allows you to indulge in a hot soak after a busy day, with a large walk-in shower in here too. The garden area outside is perfect for sitting out and soaking up the views of the surrounding mountains while you sip a morning coffee, with lots of wildlife regularly visiting the area, you might even see red stags up close! A track leads from the front of the cottage down to Loch Shiel offering a great way to start your day with an amble along the waters. Just across from the cottage is Glenfinnan Station where the Harry Potter Hogwarts train, or The Jacobite as it is officially named, comes twice a day, hop on here to travel across the magnificent 21-arched Glenfinnan Viaduct, with the train sometimes pausing on the viaduct time-permitting for you to soak up the stunning scenery, before continuing on across the amazing landscape. The West Highland Railway Museum is located in the restored Glenfinnan station, whilst another must-see is the Glennfinnan Monument, home to a visitor centre too, it's a tribute to those who perished fighting the Jacobite cause, surrounded by the incredible scenery of Loch Shiel. Discover the delightful village of Corpach just over thirteen miles away hosting a local shop and a pub, along with the family-run Treasures of the Earth museum, displaying a private collection of fossils, gemstones and crystals, whilst Neptune's Staircase in Banavie is not to be missed with its series of locks on the canal creating a striking sight to behold!
