This wonderful holiday home has a rich history and was once recognised as the largest and oldest whisky distilleries in all of Scotland and its past has been thoroughly retained with original features including wooden panelling and Victorian staircase. This dog-friendly dwelling benefits from ample off-road parking, a tranquil setting amidst the Highlands and five beautiful-presented bedrooms, perfect for families looking to gather for a truly memorable holiday in Scotland. Cross the threshold to find two sitting rooms where you can unwind; one boasts a TV and crackling woodburning stove that adds to the homely ambience. Later, head into the fully-equipped kitchen where you can help rustle up tasty meals for the whole family using the range cooker, gather the family in the formal dining room to tuck into your delightful culinary creation. While the evenings away in the expansive, manicured gardens where you can sit in multiple areas with a glass of while the sun sets over the rolling Scottish fields. When the sky darkens, climb the stairs to wash off the day in the bathroom before choosing from five bedrooms to catch your rest; there are three super-king-sizes, one with en-suite shower room, a double with en-suite shower room and a twin. There are a plethora of walks woven throughout the countryside which can be accessed from your front door; be sure to walk alongside the River Thurso which flows nearby. Thurso Beach can be found at the end of the river and is an idyllic place to admire views across the North Sea to the Orkney Island, the NC500 runs through the area here too. The village of Halkirk is also easily accessible and is home to amenities to help ease your self-catered stay as well as the Ulbster Arms where you can treat your loved ones to delicious meals. Located in Caithness, the tranquil community of Halkirk is sometimes referred to as the "first planned village in Scotland." It boasts stunning views of the surrounding moors and the North Sea, as well as easy access to the Moray Coast. The town of Halkirk has a few conveniences, such as a small village tavern, a shop selling local produce, and a hotel with a restaurant. The town of Halkirk provides a convenient base from which to explore the rest of the Northern Highlands. John O'Groats is only 25 miles away, and the nearby towns of Durness and Smoo Cave, Cape Wrath, and the Durness Golf Course are well worth a trip. To see Orkney, hop on the daily boat that leaves from a port near The Castle of Mey. Halkirk is the perfect place for a peaceful getaway, filled with walks and birdwatching, thanks to its breath-taking views of the surrounding moorlands and glens. Moreover, Thurso is only a short drive away and features a wider variety of services.
