The River Tay runs through Dunkeld, and there are lots of spots to take in the scenery, whether it's from the cathedral grounds or the Taybank pub, where you could be lucky enough to hear some live music. The town itself dates from the 9th century and has a rich history spanning the Dark and Middle Ages to more modern history, including Thomas Telford's Tay bridge. Perthshire Big Tree Country encompasses the woodlands surrounding Dunkeld and adjacent Birnam, and is glorified in Shakespeare's "Scottish Play." The Hermitage is a National Trust forest including Ossian's Hall of Mirrors, a folly built on a rocky ledge near the Black Linn waterfalls as a monument to the 3rd century blind poet Ossian.

The house and gardens provided wonderful spaces for us all individually or in groups to play and socialise. (The non-Scots took part in our own Highland Games, the French learnt to play cricket....) As a group who all enjoy cooking, the kitchen enabled us to have a banquet every evening! Hannah and Sean were welcoming hosts, there if we needed them but otherwise unobtrusive.

We were lucky enough to see some deers and hares! Sean and Hannah were lovely and helpful and made us feel welcome. The place was clean and well maintained. There was ample space inside and outside. It's a great place for family get togethers and to relax. Local amenities aren't too far away- there is a co op and pharmacy 8 minutes away which was reassuring. I would definitely recommend Dungarthill to everyone and I'd love to come back.

Just back from a family gathering of 17. House was perfect, very spacious, comfortable, spotlessly clean and very cosy. Hannah and Sean were there to meet us and again at the end of our stay to make sure all was well. They made us feel very welcome. Can highly recommend this house.
