Groom's Cottage in the Scottish Borders is highly praised for its welcoming atmosphere, with guests often mentioning the peaceful and beautiful surroundings. The property is well-regarded for its cleanliness, comfort, and ideal location for exploring the area. While some minor issues with facilities and maintenance are noted, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.
Most guests found the cottage clean and comfortable, with a few noting areas for improvement such as dust, cobwebs, and a dirty oven. The positive remarks, however, far outweigh the negatives, indicating a high level of cleanliness overall.
The location is consistently praised for its quiet, rural setting, ideal for exploring the Scottish Borders and nearby attractions. Guests appreciate the proximity to local amenities and the peaceful environment.
The cottage is frequently described as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with several guests commenting on the pleasant atmosphere and the provision of board games. Some mention creaky floorboards and a cold evening, but overall, the comfort level is rated highly.
While the cottage is equipped with necessary facilities and guests are generally satisfied, there are comments about poor Wi-Fi, limited crockery, and maintenance issues like a dirty teapot and a freezer needing defrosting. These issues suggest room for improvement in this category.
Guests often mention the thoughtful touches provided by the host, such as a welcome pack with tea, coffee, milk, and biscuits. While these gestures are appreciated, it is important to note that such gifts are not guaranteed and may vary.

A number of interesting landmarks depict the village's long history, including a 16th Century dovecot and a beautiful parish church, believed to date back to the 12th Century. Each summer, the Jim Clark Rally, the only 'closed roads' race on mainland Britain, takes place in and around Chirnside as a memorial to the village's home born champion. Just 9 miles away lies the charming, coastal town of Berwick, boasting narrow streets enclosed within Elizabethan walls, excellent shopping and dining facilities and an interesting arts centre.
