About this property

Ty Mawr Porthmadog is a simply stunning holiday cottage set in a beautiful, rural landscape on the Llyn Peninsula. It’s 200 years old itself and has bronze age hut circles and a Neolithic Burial Chamber - history enthusiasts will love this setting! Oh, there are also gorgeous sea views across to the beach at Black Rock Sands. Inside, the holiday cottage retains much of its original character but also offers the modern amenities you’d expect from such high-quality accommodation.

The boot room is ideal for hanging coats, leaving boots or sandy beach gear. Slightly out of sight is the washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also a handy separate loo and wash hand basin.

Next up is the stunning hall but that word doesn’t do this space justice It has a vaulted ceiling and parquet floors that are furnished with rugs to make it a second sitting room.

In the main sitting room you will find comfortable sofas and chairs which have been arranged to make the most of the sea views. It also allows you to enjoy the warmth from the fire in the colder months. French doors open out into the garden.

The owners have connected the dining room to the sitting room and this room also offers sea view. This then leads into the kitchen - we love the mix of wood, slate and quarry tile floors which keeps the buildings history alive.

What a kitchen you’ll find here, too! Mealtimes will be made easier with a dishwasher, electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer and microwave.

Even the stairs are amazing at Ty Mawr - Porthmadog! There is a "Truth" cupboard in the stairwell that contains artefacts recovered from the buildings walls during the restoration project.

There are three bedrooms, one of which is ensuite. Each bedroom has a window seat facing south so you get even more sea views. Two rooms have king size beds and the middle bedroom has two singles.

The ensuite bathroom and family bathroom shared by the two other rooms both have under floor heating, electric towel rail, basin, loo and bath with shower and shower screen and views over the countryside.

Outside space includes a south-facing garden with comfy table and chairs a courtyard. This is the perfect place to sit and listen to the sound of silence, with only the odd bird call or sheep bleating to break it. Enjoy a morning cuppa in the sunshine or, by night, sit out with a glass of wine as there is little to no light pollution and the sky is awash with stars.

Ty Mawr - Porthmadog has so much history and has been transformed into a welcoming, bright and happy holiday cottage that’s ideal for your next family holiday in North Wales. The farm is still active and you can spot sheep, cattle and alpaca grazing the lush land. Black Rock Sands is super close by and it’s only a quick car journey to the bustling seaside towns of Criccieth and Porthmadog. Steam train rides in stunning Snowdonia scenery, visits to castles, beaches and brilliant places to eat are all possible, as are walks and activities. You’ll be spoilt for choice. Plan your perfect holiday in North Wales today, starting with booking this fabulous holiday cottage.

The bustling harbour town of Porthmadog lies on the Glaslyn Estuary and enjoys a stunning setting. The gateway to the Snowdonia National Park, Porthmadog is full of individual shops and restaurants, and home to the Ffestiniog Railway, where you can travel by steam through spectacular Snowdonia scenery, to Blaenau Ffestiniog. The pretty village of Borth Y Gest, with its cliffs and coves, is a short walk or drive from the town. The well known and unique Italianate village of Portmeirion is just down the coast. Situated on a rugged clifftop on its own private peninsula, Portmeirion, famous as the location of the TV show The Prisoner and the final episode of Cold Feet, is surrounded by miles of sandy beaches and woodlands. The area also boasts castles at Criccieth and Harlech, and superb unspoilt beaches such as Black Rock Sands, where the sands stretch as far as the eye can see. An ideal location for the attractions of Snowdonia and the The Lleyn Peninsula.

A lovely layout in a peaceful and private location. Well equipped and beautifully clean. We felt at home immediately. We enjoyed seeing the farmer come and go having sheep and cattle next door though we were never disturbed by any noise. Conveniently near Blackrock Sands with its super fine sand and shallow shelving beach. Highly recommend a meal at the Caerwylan Hotel restaurant in Criccieth. Owner note - a cloth/sponge in each bathroom to wipe down water after showering would good, especially since water gets on the window sills. My son commented that his bed was uncomfortable in the twin room, door side. Many thanks for being so kind about our mistake with the departure date!
