About this property

Situated on Borth y Gest's pretty harbour, Plas Mor is an idyllic holiday house with stunning views across the estuary to Cnicht, the mountain known as the Welsh Matterhorn. When renovating this cottage, the owners went to great lengths to ensure that it meets their own requirements for a holiday home, and they have chosen high quality furnishings to complement the spacious and bright interior.

The entrance hall has plenty of space for coats and boots.

With a pretty bay window and original stripped floorboards, the lovely open plan sitting room is a blend of old and new. The deep, comfy sofas make this a great place for relaxing.

An oriel window in the kitchen gives fantastic views across the bay. The kitchen is well equipped with gas hob, double oven, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave. It is furnished with a dining table and chairs. There is even a birdwatcher's spotter scope for you to enjoy the views and watch the wildlife.

There is a downstairs loo with a superb view!

Upstairs are two bedrooms. The first is a double room furnished in a chic New England style to complement its view across the bay. This room has an en-suite shower room with loo, wash basin and a little window overlooking the sea. The second bedroom is a large twin-bedded room.

There is a large luxury bathroom with walk-in shower and old fashioned fittings, a loo, wash basin and double-ended roll-top bath.

The small garden is adjacent to the harbour. It is a lovely place to sit and relax.

There is no allocated parking but there is a car park nearby.

Borth y Gest has a popular restaurant and cafe, both with stunning views. Within walking distance are several beautiful sandy coves which lead to the gorgeous Black Rock Sands beach. This is also a great location from which to explore Snowdonia, or you could visit Portmeirion and ride on the Welsh Highland Railway.

Borth y Gest is a quiet Welsh seaside village of mainly Victorian houses retaining much charm and character. Located by the mouth of the River Glaslyn, and a short drive away from the Italian styled village of Portmeirion, this pretty Welsh village has stunning panoramic views over the sands and estuary to the historic Harlech Castle and the Snowdonia National Park beyond. This North Wales village has two bistros and a coffee lounge all located on the front overlooking the bay and all with dog-friendly outdoor seating areas; perfect places to while away the hours watching the comings and goings of the local boatmen. Borth y Gest, with its sheltered coves and sandy beaches, has walking in abundance; why not head up Moel-y-Gest or take a wander over the headland to the famous Black Rock Sands, or go a little further afield where the vast Snowdonia National Park awaits? For a day out you can take a trip on the famous Ffestiniog Steam Railway and Welsh Highland Railway from Porthmadog, only a 15 minutes' walk away, or for those with younger children why not visit the shorter but more child-focussed Welsh Highland Heritage Railway? For a day trip the entire Llyn Peninsula calls. With Anglesey within reach and the whole North Wales coast with the Wales Coast Path to be explored, Borth y Gest has it all: a quiet bolt hole but conveniently located for ease of access to this stunning area, a must at any time of the year.

We turned up excited for our stay our holiday and rest was needed . When we opened front door we knew that we wouldn’t be staying. The house had a very bad smell of damp and urine . We went in to look and there was damp on wall soon as u entered property. The wooden floors were stained and rugs well they were fit for bin . We further investigated upstairs there was no proper handrails only a rope to get up . If you have a disability then this is a big problem nowhere in the description of let did it say not suitable for disabled persons. The stair treads were cracked and ready to split . Going out to the rear of property you have to descend into a basement area which the smell was absolutely disgusting. It was damp and mouldy on walls . Looked really spooky . Wouldn’t really want to be letting my dog out late at night down there as there’s no front garden . As you can see it wasn’t great it was that bad we didn’t stay 1 NIGHT we went straight home very disappointed . We rang Skye’s and told them hoping they as the letting agent would assist .NO THEY DIDNT they said contact OWNER we paid £600 to SYKES SO THEY SHOULD SORT IT !!! The owner then said we should of stayed to give them time to rectify the PROBLEMS!!! We don’t want to stay on HOLIDAY when people are coming in deep cleaning or changing rugs or painting damp walls or fixing stairs !! I HOPE PEOPLE SEE THIS AS RIGHT AND THAT AM NOT BEING UNREASONABLE TO STAY IN A HOUSE THAT NEEDED REPAIR !!! After speaking to the cleaner/OWNER THEY INFORMED ME THEY HAVE SHUT THE HOUSE DOWN FOR S MONTH TO SORT THE ISSUES OUT AS ITS BEEN A LONG YEAR OF LETTINGS

We had no issues with parking at the house and loved waking up to the views , the bed was very comfy. The house is a good space , but it really needs a deep clean and the overall upkeep of the house we felt let the stay down. For example, the bath anti slip had pink mould on it, the bedroom had mould, bathrooms had very mouldy grout, fridge was dirty, sofa covers marked etc and not sure on the big rugs in the bathroom for hygiene reasons. When we arrived the house was very cold and was cold in the morning, it would be a nice touch if the heating could be put on before arrival. Once we located the thermostat it did warm up but there are no instructions for what to do with rubbish at the house , operation of heating etc so we had to guess. The tea and coffee canisters were pretty much empty, bin bags not placed in the bin and no surface spray or wipes etc to be found, so make sure you bring your own but a nice gesture of milk and Welsh cakes at the house! The stairs down into the garden are actually via an internal staircase which is fairly steep and the area smells strongly of mould - also not sure if someone lives in the downstairs area as it looked like another apartment. We felt a bit unsure/unsafe as it felt like someone had access from this area up to the main house as there is no lockable door between the house and internal basement stairs. This made us not want to use the garden so we took our dog around the block instead through the front door. £20 for a dog cleaning fee feels rather steep considering the overall condition of the property which has so much potential.

The space in the house worked well for us too having two bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The house is a little tired but that didn’t really bother us except for the shower in the back bedroom was leaking into the kitchen above the dining table which we left a note in the housekeeper’s note book regarding it. The only downside for me was the garden furniture was very uncomfortable with no cushions provided and didn’t get much evening sun at all due to high hedges. We made use of the benches dotted around the village but couldn’t really enjoy some privacy and a few glass of wine which we like to do after a long day out. There are plenty of gorgeous coastal and woodland walks from the house and a brilliant bus service to and from Porthmadog where connections to other beautiful places were available and regular. We made full use of these and went somewhere different most days. All in all we felt that Plas Mor worked really well for us. Thank you very much, we hope to be able to return sometime in the future.
