Guests say

Guests consistently praise Ploony Cottage for its picturesque setting, tranquillity, and welcoming hosts. The enclosed garden and hot tub are recurrent highlights, offering relaxation and a secure space for pets. The property's rural charm and the opportunity to engage with farm life add to the unique experience. While the access track and proximity to farm animals may require consideration for some visitors, the overall sentiment is one of a delightful and restful retreat.

The majority of guests found the cottage to be clean and well-maintained, with only a few isolated comments about cleanliness issues. These seem to be exceptions rather than the rule, indicating a generally high standard of cleanliness.

The location is highly praised for its beauty and peacefulness, with many guests appreciating the seclusion and rural setting. The presence of a working farm and natural surroundings contribute positively to the experience, although the access track is noted as rough for some vehicles.

Guests frequently mention the comfort of the beds and the cosy atmosphere of the cottage. The property is described as homely and well-supplied, contributing to a comfortable stay. However, a few guests noted a lack of wardrobes and issues with heating controls.

Facilities such as the hot tub, large kitchen, and secure garden are often highlighted positively. Some guests mentioned the need for minor maintenance and additional kitchen equipment, suggesting room for improvement in this category.

Many reviews express gratitude for the thoughtful touches provided by the hosts, including welcome gifts such as Welsh cakes, wine, and flowers. While these gestures are greatly appreciated, it is important to note that such extras, though common, are not guaranteed.

About this property

Bleddfa 1 mile. A traditional farmhouse, situated adjacent to Plooney Barn, in a pretty valley just outside the village of Bleddfa, Mid Wales. The cottage is the perfect base for families or friends looking to relax and experience an idyllic, peaceful location in the stunning border countryside. Set over two floors, there are three comfortable bedrooms and a family bathroom, as well as a traditional, well-equipped kitchen with a stone-flagged floor and dining area. Across the hall is the cosy sitting room with a woodburner, where you can unwind after exploring the area. Outside, you can sit on the patio in the calming garden, which has a raised veranda with a six-seater hot tub, sloping lawns and a further terraced lawned area looking across the valley and down to the idyllic cottage. A mountain stream runs through the garden, which offers plenty of room to run and play, sit under the mature trees, or relax on the patio while the children enjoy exploring the large undulating garden. This delightful farmhouse cottage is situated on a rarely used and ancient by-way, which enables you to walk to a local drink only pub in Llangunllo serving local real ales, being either a one or two mile walk away depending on which direction you choose, a wonderful opportunity to travel along paths used for hundreds of years in unspoilt countryside. You are ideally placed to explore the green rolling hills and Knighton, making Ploony Cottage the perfect gateway in the Shropshire Hills AONB. Knighton is linked with the walker’s town of Kington, by Offa’s Dyke that meanders through the countryside along the border between Wales and England, in the area known as the Welsh Marches. It is a pretty market town, with the traditional landscape of Hergest Croft Gardens and its popular tea rooms. The area also offers numerous outdoor activities, such as cycling, horse riding and walking, with Offa’s Dyke Path and Glyndwr’s Way just a short drive away, as well as lots of local gardens and golf courses. Slightly further afield are Builth Wells and the Royal Welsh Showground, which host various annual events, the quaint town of Rhayader where you can visit the Red Kite feeding centre, and the Elan Valley Reservoirs. Alternatively, visit Ludlow or Leominster, beautiful historic market towns where you can browse local producers and maybe try one of the many restaurants available. A traditional cottage, nestled in a secluded valley, offering a delightful retreat in the rolling countryside of the Welsh Marches.

Bleddfa is a small quiet village in the rolling hills of Radnorshire, on the edge of Radnor Forest with walks through the village to a view point above. However, after failing to resolve privately with either owners or sykes I have little choice. We had an electrical issue (similar it would seem to those in 2023 in the reviews). The issue is a known leaky worktop (a known issue as evidenced in text messages from the owner) and the use of a live coiled extension lead underneath. Needless to say a dangerous situation. As referenced in previous reviews there is no signal and with internet down I was claiming up the hill to contact the owner. The response was delayed, defensive and inadequate. With the electric back after 3 hours, the longer solution, to come back the next day with a hairdryer!!! Not acceptable in any circumstance but when paying near £1000 for 4 nights this stung. Agreed to be in all morning no one turned up till 2. Since complaining through Sykes (a complete waste of time) the owners have refused all responsibility and I was surprised that no good will gesture was offered. After reading some of the reviews and responses I do not expect anything other than a defensive response on here. Like I said a real shame as other than the safety issue, it is a gem of a place.
