Guests say

The Shippon is a well-received cottage offering a peaceful stay in a beautiful rural setting near Conwy. Guests praise its cosy atmosphere, friendly owners, and the added charm of local wildlife. While some mention steep stairs and initial coldness, the overall experience is of a comfortable and welcoming retreat ideal for exploring North Wales.

Reviews consistently mention that The Shippon is clean and well-maintained, with only a few isolated comments about minor issues. The positive remarks about cleanliness far outweigh the negatives, indicating high standards.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to Conwy, and accessibility to local attractions. The rural charm and scenic views contribute to a very positive perception of the cottage's location.

The majority of guests find the cottage comfortable, noting the cosy bed and warm atmosphere once heated. However, a few guests mention challenges with the steep stairs and initial coldness, slightly impacting the comfort score.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, with special mentions of the woodburner and well-equipped kitchen. Some concerns about Wi-Fi and steep stairs suggest room for improvement in facilities and maintenance.

While guests appreciate the thoughtful touches like the provision of logs and a welcoming bottle of wine, there are not enough references to gifts to guarantee this as a standard offering. Therefore, a score cannot be provided.

About this property

A delightful 18th century detached barn nestling within a three acre rural setting in the Conwy Valley. A wonderful property, The Shippon has been beautifully converted and retains many features such as exposed beams and a charming mezzanine bedroom. Outside, the property has a pretty sitting area. It is surrounded by fields with lovely views, and is exceptionally tranquil. The Shippon offers cosy and comfortable accommodation, furnished and decorated to a high standard. The whole area is a paradise for climbers, walkers, cyclists and horseriders alike - the Snowdonia National Park is within easy riding distance, and summer stabling is available. Conwy is a true medieval gem with its magnificent castle, splendid town walks, picturesque harbour and links golf course. An ideal location for a relaxing break any time of the year.

Conwy is an historic town and has been declared a World Heritage Site in recognition of its architecture and other links with the past. The town is most renowned for its medieval castle and town walls that are almost complete, both of which offer fantastic views of Snowdonia and the estuary of the River Conwy. Today Conwy is a bustling town that caters for both tourists and the local community. Ancient buildings sit comfortably among more recent properties and there is an abundance of places to visit. Top of the list is the Castle, but there are many more, including Plas Mawr, an architectural gem and said to be the finest surviving Elizabethan townhouse to be found anywhere in Britain. Towards the quayside you will find Aberconwy House a 14th Century merchant's house believed to be the oldest townhouse in Wales. It has been carefully restored to reflect the daily life of its residents over time. On the quayside you may enter the smallest house in Britain or visit the Aquarium and Conwy mussel museum. Take a boat trip on the river and see the Great Orme, or sail upriver to see the full beauty of the Conwy Estuary and the Conwy Valley.

It's a great base to explore the coast and mountains of north Wales and to come back and light the log burner at the end of a cold day and have a hot bath was perfect. Our dogs loved it too. We will return in the future. Thanks Andrew and Sarah.

Clean, full of character and sympathetically furnished (with luxurious bed and bedding!), the living area was well laid out and felt more spacious than we expected from the photos. The log burner gave us warmth and made for some cosy evenings. The cottage was ideally situated to explore the area. We would love to return and would recommend to others.

It was perfect. Eddy and Barney had fun too ..our two dogs had lots of free time in the big field . The Barn was warm and welcoming, very clean and homey. Such a beautiful and peaceful place. We couldn't recommend it highly enough. Thank you for the generous log basket. Only one tiny thing to say ..the rugs side of the bed are very slippy. Just a tiny comment. We came away rested and relaxed. Thank you.
