Guests say

Guests have praised the Big House for its stunning views, comfortable accommodation, and ideal location for exploring Snowdonia and nearby beaches. The property is well-suited for extended families and pet owners, with special mentions of the annex and the sunsets. While some guests encountered issues with maintenance and facilities, the overall experience was highly enjoyable, with many expressing a desire to return.

The majority of guests found the property to be clean and well-presented, with only a few isolated comments about maintenance issues towards the end of the season. The positive remarks about cleanliness in the reviews suggest a high standard is typically maintained.

The location is highly praised for its beautiful views, proximity to beaches, and suitability for exploring North Wales. The property's position is a highlight for many guests, contributing to the overall positive experience.

Guests generally found the property comfortable, with spacious rooms and cosy settings. However, there were a few comments about bed comfort and a suggestion for a traffic mirror for safer exit from the steep drive, which slightly affected the comfort score.

Facilities were appreciated, especially the well-equipped kitchen and wood burners. However, there were several mentions of maintenance issues such as broken shower brackets, lighting problems, and a broken dishwasher, which have impacted the score.

Guests mentioned thoughtful touches like a welcome hamper, fresh flowers, and free wood for the burners. While these gestures were appreciated, it is important to note that such gifts are subject to availability and not guaranteed.

About this property

Big House is ideal for a family getaway in Snowdonia and is perfectly placed for exploring some of the best parts of North Wales, too. The interior styling is wonderfully quirky and there are gorgeous views - you’ll be sure to make happy holiday memories here. As you’ll see from the photographs of Big House, there’s a larger ‘main house’ and a smaller ‘annexe’. There is also Little House next door which can be booked separately, or together if you’d like to have extra space.

There are three brilliant bedrooms. One with a double bed & an ensuite overflowing with character owing to it’s wooden beams and dressing area! In here there’s a loo, wash hand basin, bath & shower.

The family bathroom is on the first floor and has a loo, wash hand basin and a bath with shower over.

Annexe

The sitting room in the annexe is on the ground floor and is an open plan space. A sofa is placed close to the cosy wood burning stove, there’s a TV with DVD player & wall to wall bi-folding doors - open them and let the fresh air flow through!

The dining table is in the kitchenette which has a sink, two-ring ceramic hob, microwave/grill/oven and fridge with ice box.

The bedroom has a double bed and ensuite bathroom with loo, wash hand basin & shower.

Big House offers the luxury of a holiday house which is nestled in lovely lawned gardens - it even has fields where guests (and your furry friends!) are free to wander. You can sit outside on the garden furniture and soak up the Snowdonia countryside. The paved area has seating and has a border of beautiful flowers.

There is also a sizeable grassy area with seating from which you can take in views of the sandy estuary. There is ample parking to the side of the house.

Big House is in a great position for exploring Snowdonia and wider North Wales. Portmeirion isn’t far away and other attractions are close by too. You’re just a five minute stroll from jumping on the Cambrian Coast Railway where you can sit, relax and enjoy some of North Wales’ finest scenery. There are incredible walks and cycle routes, as well as places to eat and drink. You really will be spoilt for choice - an ideal holiday house for either action-packed adventures, or a relaxing getaway.

Big house sleeps seven guests in total, due to the layout the self-contained annex sleeping two provides an ideal property for families or groups of friends requiring extra privacy. Bigger family? No problem- why not book Little House 1008888 alongside to accommodate an extra two guests!

Llandecwyn is a scattered rural hamlet in North Wales, which stands amidst farmland, hills with lakes and mountains, which are all perfect for scenic walks and mountain biking. Llandecwyn is set on the National Cycle Route 8, plus birdwatching can be enjoyed on the red kite waymarked trail, which passes through the hamlet. There are also birdwatching opportunities along the coast and at the rspb Osprey project, which is nearby. Only 5 miles away is historic Harlech, which is situated in a magnificent position between the mountains and the sea. Harlech is dominated by its majestic 13th century castle, which enjoys World Heritage status. The town is very popular with golfers, who come to enjoy the famous Royal St. David's course, whilst the beautiful 6 mile long sandy beach is wonderful for family fun and long walks. Harlech offers an excellent variety of amenities including some good quality restaurants and a leisure centre, whilst the whole of the Snowdonia National Park, together with the sandy beaches of Cardigan Bay, are all within easy reach. Other attractions in the area include the Ffestiniog Railway and Welsh Highland Light Railway, the secluded beaches at Borth y Guest and the Black Rock sands and the Italianate village of Portmeirion. A really beautiful part of North Wales.

Door knob on one of the bedrooms had fallen off blind in main bathroom had fallen off and shower head wobbled lovely location but access on to road was dangerous - mirror would be useful

  • Ann

Door handle on twin bedroom falls off, so unable to close the door. Shower bracket broken. Shower curtains mouldy. Central ring on hob and one oven seemed not to function. Garden very overgrown - branches over back door and windows at back of house. Field had sheep in, and garden was not secure for dogs (as advertised). Blanket folded in living room smelled of urine (presumably dogs ...) A lovely house in a beautiful situation, just a pity that it isn't better maintained. We understand that it's getting to the end of the holiday season, but we did pay a lot to stay there!

  • Geoff

Mirror lights not working but I changed bulbs. Lawn space not secured so I used fishing net to cover gap and stop dog wandering off. No paddock to be used because of sheep.
