What our customers say about their holidays

This Spa could be so much more.
I really don't know where to start. My stay consisted of myself, husband child of 12 and 2 elderly parents (in their 80s). After a speedy, courteous check in we were shown by map where our lodge was situated, (note to anyone with a disability the parking can sometimes be a distance from the car parking area to you lodge) was even more of a headache when you have to unpack and make 10 journeys with all you luggage!! Initial look of the lodges and surroundings were really lovely, and well presented. However when we started to unpack and put things away, we immediately noticed that the kitchenette, that is advertised is merely a micorwave/cooker toaster and kettle (how you are supposed to prepare a meal in this was mindboggling), that said there were insufficient plates, bowls etc, no larger bowls to cook anything in microwave/cooker, no chopping boards, sharp knives, wooden spoons, even a tea towels was none existent etc you get the picture like nothing!! I asked reception for these utensils - response was microwave was solely for warming food up?! I did state that it was a microwave/cooker but was informed that they didn't have anything like this, we were given more crockery, and they tried with larger pasta bowls but that was it. We then noticed we didn't have any robes to use the spa, so again went to reception and asked, housekeeping did bring some along and apologised stating they would bring some of the slippers the next day, this never happened! The lodge looked dirty cobwebs in the shower areas, cigarette butts where the hot tub is (at the back of the lodge), there was a brush and dust pan no hoover to clean any spills up. I asked housekeeping how did we get our towels changed I was informed that we had to ask for housekeeping and they would sort this. This never happened. In my parents room there was no blind/curtains at their bedroom window - not what you want when undressing etc - again went to reception this was rectified the next day. The mess from the drilling on the wall was never cleaned away bits of brick dust etc on the floor and nothing to clean it away with again asked for housekeeping never came. Now into day 2 of our 7 night stay and we had a blocked drain in our walk in shower room, the water was pouring into the lounge area, which we had to mop up with towels, my husband spoke to 4 members of staff over 2 days to ask for this to be rectified, and for all the dirty towels to be removed and given clean ones - shower drain was eventually unblocked however the towels were simply pushed into the other corner of the bathroom and no clean ones replace nor did the housekeeping clean the bathroom from the dirty water!! I had to carry all the dirty towels to reception collect clean ones and raise my concern that this was not good enough! We again spoke to staff that they was a leak on the kitchen sink and the en-suite bathroom sink no-one came, and to be honest got sick of going back and forwards to ask for clean towels. At no one given time did any member of housekeeping refresh clean towels, mop the floors hoover around or remove the rubbish ( I may add that there was nowhere to place you household rubbish so once again my husband had to carry and find a larger kitchen bin which was situated around the kitchen area of the spa)!! At the end of our stay another visitor had disposed of there household rubbish pizza boxes etc was strewn all over the lawns in front of us and seagulls and birds were feeding at a frenzy! There was ants and on our 5 night stay when looking at how bad the leak was under the kitchen sink, noticed we had had a visitor in the form of a mouse!! The spa itself was lovely and so were the staff we had encountered, however our stay was really spoilt due to the lack of cleanliness, and constant back and forth with reception. Would never return no would I recommend.

Just back from a lovely holiday in Wales.
Cartref is a great holiday cottage ideally situated a 5 min walk from the centre of Llangollen with its many restaurants, bars and shops. Youâre also a 2 min walk from Aldi which is highly convenient, especially as it is open until 10pm most nights. There is plenty to do in the area and we enjoyed Bodnant Gardens, Chester Zoo and a canoeing trip over the aqueduct. The cottage was modern, comfortable and clean. The bed was a comfortable king with good quality bedding. As a party of 3 the cottage suited us well, but note it is quite small and I think youâd struggle if there were 4 of you. For example there are 3 comfy seats in the lounge, although you could probably squeeze another one in if your kids are small! Our only concern was how close to the A5 the cottage is. In fact this proved to be less of a problem than anticipated as overnight the traffic dies down, and the windows are good quality so kept much of the noise out. If it was very hot I can see this could be difficult, if you wanted to sleep with the window open. However Iâm not sure Wales is hot very often... There is also no outdoor space, although you are directly opposite the play park with a seating area. Thank you for a lovely holiday, if a little wet!

On first appearance the cottage seemed generally clean but on further inspection we found lots of cobwebs and spiders in all rooms and some cupboards.
Maintenance- Door to living room catches on the floor. No light working in corridor to downstairs bedroom. Bathroom in need of make over due to water damage. Threshold strip into the kitchen trip hazard due to collapsing. Saucepan handles were loose - fixed by us Cooker hood canopy light not working - fixed by us Temperature control on shower does not work- seems to be locked at a high temperature. No anti slip mat provided so we left ours. Broken glass in kitchen cupboard. Can opener inadequate. Automatic lighting system in kitchen and hallway we found to be an inconvenience and wastes electric. Storage space in the kitchen inadequate unless you want to store frozen food. It would have be nice prior to occupation if the outside frontage was swept and free of litter around the bus stop. Having mentioned all these there were lots of things we liked about the property but thatâs what we expected. The location to the park and town are good but extra care needs to be taken when crossing the busy road straight outside the front door. We missed having private outdoor space. Parking is provided but take extreme care when pulling out. We would stay here again and hopefully all the above would have received attention.

The kitchen was too small.
The only cupboard space for dry food measured 7cm wide by 70 cm high. Totally inadequate. There was no work surface space. The floor space between kitchen wall and appliances was around 80cm again too small. It was impossible for more than one person to work in the kitchen at any one time. The living room was just about adequate for two adults but the cottage was advertised to sleep four. You clearly stated that there were two parking spaces per cottage. There were only five spaces and only one space was allocated to Catref. My sister-in-law was due to accompany us but was unable to come at the last minute. Just as well as we would have had a big problem. I should add that we have rented properties from you on a number of occasions and have always been satisfied but this cottage was not up to your usual standard,

Lovely big apartment, great views from the front windows over the sea.
The lift is a massive bonus getting bags into the place, and I expect for those who struggle with stairs. Decent parking at the back, takes a bit of manoeuvring, but even for my large car it wasn't too difficult. Great condition, excellent kitchen with nearly everything you need to do a good job of the cooking... WiFi excellent coverage and speed for all the families gadgets. TV reception a bit hit and miss (common around the seaside areas I have found before) but use of the smart apps on the TVs worked well (just be careful with the remotes as they work both TVs in bedroom/ lounge and can be annoying if you accidentally turn off something on the other TV... ) Comfy furniture and beds, clean throughout. We had a lovely time.
