What our customers say about their holidays

On arrival, the kitchen had dirty splash back (coffee stains up the wall under the window), grill pan had cheese & crumbs in, 2 partly used containers of milk were in the fridge, one floor plank had slid & there was a 2â gap between planks.
Kitchen window (left) latch was loose. Dried food was left stuck on dining table. Large duvet was lying in the bottom of the pantry. French doors by the wood burner/ sitting area wouldnât shut (we looked at the handle & noted there was no locking mechanism, this meant the lodge was not secure. The En-suite shower in main the bedroom had 1/2 used toiletries in the shower which looked dirty (black & orange marks on the floor), also the shower curtain was orange/brown on the bottom 25%. In the main bedroom 4 pillowcases had been left draped over the television, we put them on the pillows. There were cobwebs throughout the property & the skirting boards were covered in dust. The WiFi hardly worked & it was only possible to get 3G. We certainly didnât expect to have to go out to get any connection. We felt disappointed & think the lodge is tired. The lodge was a perfect size for us with a 94 year old in tow. We loved the location & the setting of the lodge. The Barnsdale Hotel was conveniently situated for meals & refreshments, and use of the WiFi.

We had a lovely stay here.
It really was like a home from home! Jane and John had thought of everything that could possibly be needed, even an âOn no! Iâve forgotten my..â kit which was a lovely touch. They were just next door if we had any issues (which we didnât). There was tea, coffee, milk and fresh flowers to welcome us on arrival too. The property is very spacious with a lovely bright conservatory. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of towels. One of our party had difficulty walking and we needed a shower that was easy to walk in to. This property was perfect as everything was on one level. We could park right outside the door. They could use either the wet room or the walk-in shower in the bathroom. It was a great base for visiting surrounding areas. We drove to Matlock, Bakewell, Lincoln, Chesterfield, Clumber Park, Welbeck Abbey and Sherwood Forest. Bolsover castle was about a 15 minute walk and there was a Morrisons about the same distance nearby. I would definitely come back again!

Lovely property, well laid out, everything within Samphire is faultless.
It's comfortable and very clean. The only thing that let it down was the garden. The grass is patchy and overgrown in some areas. It lacks a bit of TLC. It would be have nice to have some comfortable seating for relaxing in the garden. The picnic table and metal chairs (which were meant for the front I think, but previous holidaymakers probably moved them) weren't comfortable enough to sit on if you wanted to sit for a while. There were two wooden chairs on the top garden, but they were absolutely covered in bird droppings. Although I can understand that it would be very difficult to keep on top of that. If the garden is tidied up a bit we would love to come back next year. We enjoyed walking Jack (the dog) on the beach, along the lane to the fields and along the path at the top of the sand dunes. We were very fortunate to have great weather all week. A quiet, relaxing and peaceful holiday. The owners did a fantastic job when they renovated Samphire.

Ticencote Lodge was all that we had hoped and expected it to be.
The furnishings were country casual style/design and the overall finish was most attractive. The living, dining, eating area was well served with plenty of cupboard space, an area for shoes and coats and overall very well appointed. Having the lodge within a few minutes walk of the lovely Barnsdale Lodge Hotel was the best of both worlds. Somewhere to pop across for a drink before cooking in the kitchen at the lodge but with the option of dinner at the hotel that we enjoyed on a couple of occasions, one being Sunday lunchtime. Unlike a hotel room, the lodge meant with only the two of us plenty of space to stretch out, a bathroom and shower room meant no sharing needed! The area of Rutland Water is beautiful and we enjoyed a relaxed week in delightful surroundings. We almost never return to the same place twice as we love to discover new areas but I have a strong feeling that we will aim to return to a Rutland Reatreat lodge at a different time of year.

Lovely place, cleaner than a lot of places I have stayed but I am so sorry I can't give a higher rating.
Parking was virtually impossible for one car never mind 2. It took me lots of to-ing and fro-ing to get the car onto the blocked paving. The track in front is access to other properties so you can't overhang onto it. Cleanliness and comfort are extremely important, and whilst I am happy with how well the bungalow is kept, although someone elses clothes were left in a drawer, I have had no sleep. What is going on with the bed? When you feel the mattress it feels lovely, but when you get into bed there's a distinct ridge down the centre which means you are fighting not to roll to the edge of the bed all night long regardless of which side you sleep. At a petite 5' this shouldn't be happening. I spent nights awake and days dozing on the sofa, so my holiday was in fact not a holiday at all. Yes, I tried anothre double bed but that was on a slant too. I am leaving for my second part of my 'holiday' feeling absolutely shattered. Pros: Clean Cons: Bed, parking
