What our customers say about their holidays
Anthony - Verified booking
This barn is secluded and peaceful,it has everything you need for a quite relaxing break, it is literally home from home, all you need is food.
We did find that the water was different from our water up north/Manchester and it left a slimy residue in our black tea but it was still fine to drink,we decided to buy bottled water for our cups of tea. Their are 3 good size bedrooms, the shower in the bathroom have great water pressure and are lovely and hot,all towels and bedding are provided, the barn has underfloor heating in the kitchen which is constantly on and it also has full central heating. The upstairs living room has enough seating for 6 people. Our only faults were the tap on the sink in the upstairs bathroom is extremely noisy when turned on which could easily wake people up in the bedrooms either side, the floors upstairs do creak slot when walking about and as the bedroom downstairs is directly below the upstairs bedroom, you can hear people walking about in the night,we also had an infestation of ladybirds on the bedroom windows in both bedrooms, probably around 80 ladybirds on one single window in both bedrooms. We managed to stop them in the upstairs bedroom by putting tissue over the window vents but we couldn't pinpoint where they were getting into the downstairs bedroom. Overall this barn is a lovely place to stay with a little village 10 minutes down the rd with a small shop and pub. Everyone is also extremely friendly. Charles the owner gave us a phone call on our 1st night asking if we had settled in ok,which I found very nice. I would rate our stay in this barn at 9 out of 10

This is a well equipped cottage nicely kitted out inside with just about everything you need.
The house is like a tardis with plenty of space inside including a huge impressive bathroom with some quirky art work, and a good sized dining room. The near by Cresswell crags is a great place to visit. One of the reasons we picked this property was for the enclosed garden to let our dog into in the morning. Unfortunately we could not let the dog out off lead as there is an un-gated passageway leading straight onto the road. We ended up taking the dog a short way up the road every day to where there is a large grass verge and a pooh bin. The biggest problem with the property was the heating which is controlled with an app by the owner. The heating is set to 19 degrees and is on from 4pm to 10pm in the evening. I spent the whole week wearing 2 jumpers in the house and feeling progressively colder in the evenings after the heating had gone off. It was particularly cold in the bathroom. There is a large 6kw decorative gas fire in the lounge, however it is extremely inefficient allowing most of the heat to go up the chimney rather than into the room. I dread to think how much it costs to run, I am sure it would have been cheaper to turn up the central heating! We were there at the beginning of April when overnight temperatures were down to zero on a couple of days. If you go in the summer you should not have those problems and should enjoy a very pleasant stay.

Really lovely, comfortable cottage.
Great location to explore the local area and a really comprehensive guidebook provided by the owner with lovely photos, recommendations of places to eat, local village guides and suggestions for trips out. We particularly enjoyed a trip to Woodall Spa followed by a drive to Sutton on Sea for fish and chips. We were a little taken aback by the layout of the cottage - the lack of internal access (although the walkway was covered) to one of the bedrooms and bathrooms was a surprise. This probably needs mentioning in the listing as this would not be suitable for everyone, especially those with younger children. The cottage was lovely and clean and well maintained although there were lots of flies upstairs and hundreds of ladybirds around all the window frames on arrival. The kitchen had everything we needed and was well stocked with crockery and glassware. Bedrooms were comfortable and plenty of towels were left. The owner rang the day after we arrived to check we had everything we needed. Although dogs are welcome at this property, they arenât allowed into the sitting room which is upstairs. The owner informed us of this after we arrived and again, I feel this needs mentioning on the website as it wouldnât suit everybody to leave the dog alone in the kitchen. Overall, a really comfortable stay in an area we will definitely return to.

Whilst the bathroom is really well appointed a few things would improve it to make it more user friendly.
When using the bath there is nowhere to put a tablet of soap, shampoo etc. so a dish or bath rack should be provided . In addition there were no handrails provided to assist in getting in or out of the bath. The walk in shower was nice but the glass side panel is too short and it was impossible to use the shower without soaking the floor. The floor was not designed to be a wet floor because there was no floor drain installed so some consideration should be given to better containment of the water from this shower. I would also point out that the shower base was completely flat with no anti-slip grooves or pimples in the surface which made it very slippery. Finally the towel rails were unheated and we therefore had to hang our towels out everyday to dry them off. Fortunately it was very hot and sunny so they dried perfectly but they definitely would not have dried had we left them in the bathroom without heating. On a couple of evenings, after a really hot day, the temperature dropped suddenly and it would have been nice to have had some means of heating in the lounge. All in all we enjoyed our stay but I'm not sure that we would whole heartedly recommend the cottage to our friends which is a true test of how we felt about it

We had a lovely week at Ivy Dene. The house was 2 houses at one point and has been joined together but keeps the unused second front door, so is bigger than you'd expect. Lovely for family life with teens to have the extra sitting room and also 2 places to eat. Very comfortable, with everything you need (probably the most well equipped kitchen we've ever found in a holiday cottages, including plastic cutlery and plates, and good, sharp kitchen knives - makes such a difference!). Crich rec is opposite the cottage with a play park and space to kick a ball, and we did some walks from Crich. Also recommend the Greyhound pub and Crawford Mill (the pub in Crich doesn't currently do evening meals). Nottingham Castle is great, lots of interactive displays and a play park (for under 12s). Fave walk, Lathkill Dale near Bakewell, absolutely stunning. A really comfortable and enjoyable week away, made by having such a pleasant base to return to. Loved sitting out in the pretty garden too.
