What our customers say about their holidays

  • Simon - Verified booking

This cottage was right up our street, and was hoping it was as described in the listing, which it was.

The cottage was immaculately clean on arrival and even more spacious than viewed from the pictures online. There was only the three of us including dog, but we like our space. The rural location on a farm with horses and dogs was great. Our dog is really hit and miss with other dogs but once she was settled in, she loved the two farm dogs. The younger dog would love to play with our dog when I walked her up the road or down in the extended grounds. Jackie the owner was very friendly and could not have been more helpful. On the day after we arrived she even invited us over to join her and others for a very belated Christmas get together which she had had to postpone from last December, now September, pulled pork baps with salad followed by profiteroles!. We spent some time just chilling and relaxing at the property. The view over the extended grounds with its peaceful and tranquil location were just the job. With the door open to the conservatory it was just nice to sit and listen to the River Corran babbling away as it runs through the grounds. There was a distant thunder storm on the first night but with all the lights off and full view of the sky from the conservatory, we had a show of lightning for most of the evening. We are members of National Trust (NT), so most of our visits were to NT properties or places including Stackpole Quay (and circular walk to the spectacular Barrafundle Beach), Paxton's Tower, Newton House, Dinefwr Grounds and Castle, Calby Woodland Garden, Lawrenny Quay/Claddeau Woods. and Dyffryn Gardens (on our journey home). Other places we visited were the Dylan Thomas history trail in and round Laugharne itself and the Castle with spectacular vies accross the River Taf/estuary. Also for those interested in all types of vehicles and speed, the Museum of Land Speed at Pendine is worth a visit. We had some good food at Poon's in Laugharne (Thai/British street food and breakfasts). Also Indian takeaways both good from Elaichi's and Bombay Spice in St. Clears. Another good place for breakfast (on way to Pendine) is the Stone Range Cafe. Lovely food too at Lawrenny Quay Cafe. All in all a great stay and would definitely consider a returning. Our family recently had the pleasure of staying at this charming cottage for a holiday, and it exceeded all our expectations!

From the moment we arrived, we felt right at home. The cottage is beautifully decorated, luxurious, and immaculately clean, with spacious bedrooms and an open living room that’s perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. Every little detail has been thought of to make families feel comfortable and welcome. One of our favourite features of the cottage was the beautiful fireplace in the living room, which added such a cosy and warm atmosphere in the evenings. Outside, there’s a fantastic BBQ space where we enjoyed family meals in the fresh air. The kids absolutely loved the separate games room, which had fun activities like table football and table tennis—perfect for keeping everyone entertained! The surrounding area is stunning, and it was the ideal spot for our family to unwind and disconnect. There are plenty of lovely walking trails nearby, great for family strolls and exploring nature. Plus, the cottage is in a fantastic location with easy access to some of South Wales' beautiful castles and beaches, making it perfect for day trips to explore the rich history and stunning coastlines. Edwin, as our host, was fantastic—super friendly, helpful, and responsive to any questions we had. He even reached out before the holiday to provide easy navigation to the cottage and shared a thoughtful list of things to do and places to eat in the area, which made planning so much easier. A lovely welcome list of essentials was also left by Edwin at the cottage, which was such a thoughtful touch! If you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing escape for the whole family, this is the perfect place. We all had an excellent stay and can’t wait to return!

We had a very disappointing stay at Corran Cottage, I'm sorry to say.

We really wanted to love this property as we were looking forward to a peaceful and relaxing holiday with our dog. The cottage was advertised as being in a "tranquil setting" with "quiet surroundings", however it was far from this. The cottage is semi-detached; there is a bed and breakfast adjoining the building and guests come and go. This would not ordinarily be a problem but for the owners 2 dogs barking at all arrivals. Also on site is the owners stables and this also resulted in many arrivals and departures, again causing car door slamming and dogs barking. The owner lives opposite the cottage and the lovely garden you see in the pictures of the trees and stream is beautiful, but is also shared with the owner and the B and B guests. There is, therefore, very little privacy in the so called "private" garden for residents of the cottage, as it is overlooked by the extended garden and all who visit it. To make matters worse the owners dogs took exception to anyone using the extended garden, and our dog was jumped on and growled at each time we left the cottage. We also witnessed the same thing happening to residents of the B and B who tried to walk their dog in the extended grounds, so it certainly was not a one-off situation. Each time we left the cottage we had to carry our dog to the car to prevent it being jumped on by the owners dogs. A far from relaxing stay at Corran Cottage and we decided to leave 4 days early, as 3 nights there was far too stressful for us and our dog.

Whilst the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen were generally acceptable, although not good, the living areas were poorly maintained and in an unacceptable state of cleanliness.

On arrival we had to do a thorough clean of all surface areas, including soft furnishings. There were two sofas, we only sat on one, after surface washing, drying and spraying with dettol upholstery aerosol, the other sofa remained unused. The rocking chair was filthy and need several cleanings and spraying before it could be used. There was a large fresh blood stain on the back of this chair too. All switches and light pulls had to be cleaned, the floor lamp was filthy. Under beds remain dusty. Most of the cobwebs have been removed, but not the large old one between the oven door glass. The Beach Shack was far cleaner after our stay than it was before. The Shack was well ventilated - you could see through gaps in the walls and around all the poorly fitting windows. Two of the three external doors were non-operational. There appears to be a number of attempts to fill small holes around the wooden frame windows with random blotches of white filler, which was then left un-sanded etc. The garden was overgrown, although there was recent evidence of hacking back of the brambles. However, the kitchen utensils and dishes etc were clean and appropriate, the bedding and towels were clean and there were clear instructions re waste disposal. This Beach Shack has obviously been loved in the past and could be lovely again with some care and attention to detail. The location was the Beach Shack's saving grace. It was idyllic, very beautiful beach and excellent country walks.

    Where do I start.

. Very difficult to locate with inaccurate directions and nobody answering the phone to speak to about this! The local shop within 1 mile appears to be closed constantly and shuts daily at 14:00 meaning when you check in at at 15:00 there is nowhere to shop - nearest supermarket is 20 mins away. The shack is held together with temporary repairs and just needs some tlc. We spent the first night deep cleaning the touch points and surfaces. 2 door handles are broken which made using them interesting. Spiders and cobwebs everywhere, including oven (yes that’s that right, the oven). Children and us refused to sit on furniture so purchased some bed sheets to use as sofa covers. Previous guests food was left in fridge, shower also had previous users belongings in. Active wasp nest on the side. Our Dog developed an allergy whilst there which must be dust related. Dog poo left in the garden from previous user. Checked out early. I could go on and on… Been back two weeks and still await feedback and a resolution from Sykes, very disappointed. I will be exploring false advertisement of this holiday
