What our customers say about their holidays

The cottage is cozy and comfortable but the real selling point at Riverside cottage is the fantastic outdoor space, wildlife, and scenery.
Itâs a little slice of heaven- stunning. We took our 2 dogs, both high energy dogs who love to be outdoors. One has no recall and can usually only be walked on a lead. The cottage has a really big, beautifully maintained, enclosed garden which isnât shared with any of the other cottages. But more importantly, it has a lovely big field/meadow area adjoining it with safe banks down to the river. The field is part of the estate and fully enclosed, other than a gate at the far end (you just need to check itâs been closed before letting your dogs off as there are sheep further down the track). All 4 cottages have access to the field/river but we didnât see a single other person using it all week. Was such a luxury to have it to ourselves. Our dogs (and myself and my husband) had a fantastic time in the water in the sunshine. Absolutely made our holiday being to be able to let the dogs have the run of the field for hours. Theyâve never slept so well. A personal highlight for me was seeing the kingfisher on the river. We saw them every day while sat, enjoying breakfast on the table in the garden. Every direction you look from the cottage garden is beautiful scenery. Mountains with red kite gliding above them , the river and woodland with birds galore, fish jumping out of the water, ornate chimney tops, and the colourful boarders in the garden. Owners were very friendly and welcoming. Not intrusive in the slightest. The kitchen is very compact but perfectly big enough for me and my husband. You might struggle with 5 guests though. I couldnât help but think the large shower room would be better utilised as a kitchen and the kitchen as a compact bathroom. My only very slight gripes were that the windows could have done with a more recent clean (spiderwebs in abundance) and the little yard area off the kitchen could have been spruced up a bit. Also, had the adjoining cottage (Gardenerâs Cottage)been occupied, I would have been concerned about privacy as there is only a locked internal door separating the two cottages and I think sounds may travel. We were, however, lucky enough to have the other cottage vacant during our stay. I really wouldnât let this put you off though. With the outdoor space and surrounding scenery, youâll spend most of your time enjoying outdoors. On the whole, the place was spotlessly clean, no trace of dogs. Shower was great. We had a fantastic time and we would absolutely love to come back.

The location of the cottage is great, as many of the places we visited were either a short drive away like Elan Valley, or just over an hour away like Aberdovey.
Also, a short drive away, we enjoyed a lovely meal at The Lamb & Flag pub. The cottage itself was disappointing and mainly due to the noise of the family using the property next door. It doesn't work as two rentals as essentially it's one property split into two rentals meaning it sounds like the other people are in your side of the property with only an internal door upstairs and downstairs, separating the property area. The main bedroom and landing were the worst, scaring my daughter, waking us up late at night or early in the morning, not helped by the fact the family next door were running up & down the stairs, jumping off the landing and shouting. In addition, Riverside Cottage has the back garden and the next property has the front garden. Riverside Cottage has a lovely garden, but the next door rentals kitchen looks out onto, so no privacy! Upon arriving, we were told to park our car in the small car park area, however the family staying next door, who arrived after us, parked both of their cars outside the two properties, blocking our exit & entrance to the property. So if you're looking for a relaxing week, I would only recommend Riverside Cottage if there is nobody using next door. The kitchen is on the small side but managable, but all of the cupboards are already used up with kitchenware, so for the week, we had to leave our food items in the bags we'd brought them in as there was nowhere to store them. It's also a shame that there is no washing machine. For a weeks stay as a family of 4, visiting places getting wet/muddy/sandy etc, clothes needed washing. I think this property is more a long weekend property and not meant for a weeks stay, especially for families.

Perfect location for us.
This property is located over the bridge from the main town of Builth Wells very close to the Showground. The local Co-operative/petrol station is within easy walking distance (under 10 mins) and the main town only a little further over the bridge. Lovely park in town which runs along the River Wye. Another nice walk, also along the River Wye, just over the road from the property, behind the church. The house is located right next to a Primary school (used to be the headmaster's home), but other than that, it is away from other properties. Quiet, apart from a little road traffic noise, which died down at night anyway. The property is quite old and has a farmhouse feel, with large kitchen with wood burning stove, stone/wood floorboards and rush type mats. Heating (oil) excellent and we didn't need to use stove at all. Tumble drier is provided (not spin drier as described) and washing machine - both in a little outhouse accessed from a "boot room", the latter being extremely useful for hanging up wet anoraks, rubbing down dogs etc. The garden is quite large with a fairly steep slope and essentially rough grass. It is fenced, although I would not go so far as to call it dog proof, as much of it is post and rail, easily penetrated by smaller dogs. Nice area for doggy games though. Appreciated the little touches, such as the tea and milk provided, and the owner, Philip, was very friendly and lives quite close, so was always available if there were any minor problems or queries. A very enjoyable stay and I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone.

Tried to contact the number left as had issues with the TV.
Rang and text on Saturday am and didn't get reply so resent message Sunday pm- still no reply. Had issue with hot tub Wednesday pm rang and text no reply so emailed and they came round a few hours later- we then made them aware of the issue with TV and was told girls would sort it in the morning. Was told had rang electrician re hot tub and they were waiting for him to come. Unable to use tub Wednesday evening. When got up Thursday morning tub was at 62 degrees, The girls came round - no electrician available till Friday. The tub was to be slightly emptied and filled with cold water so we could use Thursday and a thermometer was being left so we could check temperature- we went out and left them doing this and when we came back too much hot water had been let out so tub was freezing, they came back round and said they could could top up with hot water from boiler so we could use but by this time we had had enough so we declined. Lots of flies but nothing the owners could do about it-- fly spray and bombs left in lodges. Shelving in bathroom/ shower would be a good idea for shower gel/ shampoo.

Hosts were lovely and very welcoming, and the cottage was situated in a beautiful spot next to the river.
Although we knew this cottage would be basic we did not expect items to be dirty and so old. The sofa had worn so much it was threadbare with one cushion torn open, it wasn't even clean, it had a layer of dog hairs down the back where dogs had been rubbing. (We have non moulting breed so knew it wasn't them). This is also the first time we have had to buy air fresheners when in a cottage. We had to clean all the kitchen cupboard doors where you touch as you could see the layer of grime and place chopping boards outside as they smelt so bad. The layout was very strange and not as expected - the only access to what is a wonderful garden was through the toilet/shower room!! Unfortunately you couldn't see the garden from inside the house as all the onlooking windows were from the adjoining cottage. We thought having an en-suite to the master room would be ideal but it was only a toilet, there was nowhere to wash your hands so had to go downstairs anyway. We still had a great time in the local countryside but this cottage needs improvements.
