Guests say

Swan View is a well-received cottage in Southrop, praised for its character, spacious and well-equipped kitchen, and cosy living areas. The large garden and conservatory are highlights, particularly for dog owners. The local pub and serene village setting contribute to a delightful stay, despite some minor maintenance issues and the occasional mention of a closed local pub.

The cottage is generally described as clean and well-maintained, with only a few isolated comments about minor cleaning oversights. The majority of guests found the property spotless, contributing to a high cleanliness score.

The location in a quiet village with local walks and proximity to the Cotswolds is highly appreciated by guests. The secure garden and the local pub, when open, are frequently mentioned as positives, enhancing the location score.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with a cosy atmosphere and a secure garden for pets. However, some guests noted issues with seating comfort and steep stairs, slightly lowering the comfort score.

The property is well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, and offers good utilities. Some guests mentioned the need for updates to bathroom facilities and kitchenware, suggesting room for improvement in maintenance.

While some guests mentioned receiving a bottle of wine and other welcome items, there are not enough consistent references to assess the thoughtfulness across all stays. Therefore, it's important to note that such gestures, while appreciated, are not guaranteed.

About this property

Resting in a peaceful lane, in the picture-postcard village of Southrop, next to the village green, is this lovely semi-detached Cotswold stone cottage, Swan View.

With a pretty south-west facing garden, the property is the perfect getaway for a small family or group of friends alike who are seeking a relaxing break in this stunning part of the Cotswolds.

Park-up on the gravel driveway and be welcomed into the entrance hall where you can kick off your shoes and enter into the beautifully-presented sitting room that has wooden flooring and an eye-catching exposed brick fireplace containing a wood and coal burning stove, perfect for getting crackling on a cold winter evening and snuggling up on the sofas to watch a movie on the Smart TV.

A smart and light country-style kitchen provides a space where you can prepare picnics for your walks into the Cotswolds or rustle up a hot meal for your guests with the electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and freezer, and you’ll also find a dishwasher to make cleaning up a breeze!

Tuck into your meals in the lovely dining room at the large wooden dining table, before catching the sunset sat on the Rattan sofa and two chairs in the beautiful conservatory, where French doors lead out to the large, mature rear garden, with planted borders, fruit trees and a lawn area, where you can dine in warmer months underneath the umbrella at the outdoor seating area. Be sure to make use of the charcoal barbecue in summer months!

Back inside, a utility/cloakroom and a snug room complete the ground floor.

When night falls, tuck the kids into bed in the single room which has an additional 75cm wide pull-out single bed available on request, and head into the bight and spacious king-size room to get some rest for the night.

In the morning, make your way into the shower room for an invigorating rinse before getting ready to head out for the day.

Swan View is surrounded by the stunning Cotswolds countryside, and you will find The River Leach runs past the village where there is an abundance of walks from the doorstep of the cottage, including the Cotswolds Walk from Southrop to Eastleach which takes you along the River Leach, across the beautiful Cotswold countryside and on to the pretty village of Eastleach.

Eastleach is a twin village consisting of Eastleach Martin and remains unspoilt by modern times, with more than 60 listed buildings. The two villages are connected by a traditional stone clapper bridge, a series of piers supporting a row of flagstones. The route then returns south, back to Southrop through open countryside.

Burford, the “gateway to the Cotswolds” is close by, which is a town with some fantastic shops, restaurants and tourist attractions including Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, a landscaped parkland filled with nature and also Tolsey Museum, which has local history, culture, and industry collections.

The market town of Cirencester is well worth a visit, and you will find an array of shops along the Market Place and can brush up on some history at Corinium Museum which shows impressive Roman artifacts that have been well-preserved.

Gather together with your loved ones to enjoy the scenic countryside of the Cotswolds and stay at Swan View.

Overall we had a pleasant stay as we used this house as a base so we could visit the airshow. A little bemused when the owner turned up on the Monday the 22nd of July expecting the house to be empty as she had planned to stay there!!! An oversight on your part Sykes?? Not the best maintained property as the bathroom window handle was sheared off leaving a jagged edge. The master bedroom had a double socket hanging off the wall with exposed live wires!! We did contact the mobile number on the booking form to report these hazards. The freezer had to be defrosted as the drawers were frozen in place and couldn’t be moved and the top of the fridge hadn’t ever seen a duster as it was covered with dust. Generally the inside of the house could do with a freshen up as it is looking tired but on a positive note it was comfy and a nice place to stay.

The property is well equipped and very practical with off road parking and a secure rear garden, particularly useful if you have pets. There's plenty of room downstairs with decent size lounge kitchen and dining room plus a nice little conservatory opening onto the garden. Main bedroom is good, didn't use second bedroom. My only one criticism was the placement of the wall mounted cupboard in the utility room which both myself and my wife caught our shoulders on. It was almost empty so I'm not sure what purpose it served. Other than that excellent accommodation.

However this year we felt it somewhat lacking and standards had slipped There was no hand towel in downstairs cloakroom and not another one to be found apart from one in the upstairs bathroom No oven glove No teapot there was a large one last year Only half a toilet roll in each toilet resulting in us having to buy a pack
