Guests say

Coupling Cottage is a characterful property with a large garden and hot tub, praised for its comfort, decor, and friendly neighbours. Its proximity to local amenities and the town of Belper makes it an ideal base for exploring the Peak District. Guests have enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere and the extra luxuries that make it feel like a home away from home.

Several guests have raised concerns about cleanliness, mentioning issues such as pet hair, dust, and a lack of thorough cleaning in some areas. However, not all reviews mention this, indicating that experiences may vary.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to local shops, pubs, and restaurants, as well as being a great base for exploring the surrounding areas. The presence of a nearby train line is noted, but it does not seem to significantly detract from the overall positive experience.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, with a well-maintained garden and a hot tub adding to the comfort. Some guests mentioned issues with pillows and seating, but these are relatively minor compared to the overall positive feedback.

The cottage is well-equipped with a hot tub and garden furniture, and guests appreciate the extra touches. However, there are comments about the need for a freezer and some maintenance issues, such as lighting and shower problems, which suggest room for improvement.

While some guests mention receiving gifts such as wine and biscuits, there are not enough references to consistently evaluate the thoughtfulness of the host. It should be noted that such gifts, while appreciated, are not guaranteed.

We found it to: • be generously stocked with toilet and kitchen rolls, cleaning products, and some of the other items it’s frustrating to realise you have forgotten to pack, • be well located for both local amenities and a range of Peak attractions, and • have a great and safe outdoor space. There were some areas which we felt would benefit from improvement, including: • cleanliness which was generally disappointing with, for example, a dirty fridge, cobwebs in some rooms, and an eye mask from a previous guest under the main bed, • the mattress in the master bedroom which needs turning or replacing due to broken springs, and • a need for a general refresh, including the laundry or replacement of some of the more dog-worn soft furnishings (particularly those to the seating areas), the retouching of paintwork throughout the cottage, and addressing the black mould/damp to the bathroom ceiling. The other need to know before booking is the vehicular access arrangements. The parking space is really useful and adjacent to the property, however, it is accessed via a fairly steep and narrow cobbled lane which can be difficult to navigate safely due to parked cars. The cobbles are part of a heritage site and understandably not well maintained. This has resulted in several large potholes which cannot be circumvented and therefore have the potential to take quite a toll on your car. This property is not a budget option and has the potential to be brilliant, but it needs some care and attention to make it so.

We booked it for my wife’s 40th and myself and family were overwhelmed with how homely it felt. The rooms were spotless and the garden is extremely well kept. We had a perfect sunset from the garden and relaxed it the hot tub which is in a private area. The snug at the bottom of the garden is a nice touch and my two young girls saw it as their den. The location is great and within walking distance of everything we needed. The owner kept us informed of everything and we could not recommend this any higher. Thank you again! Tom. Peterborough

Favourite parts of the stay were the hot tub (super clean, large and comfortable), the decor (really lovely) and location was good for walking into the village. Comfortable beds. Huge garden space for the dog. The local pub The Devonshire was outstanding. Least favourite parts were the noisy train track right beside the garden (although kids enjoyed watching the trains!), the cobbled bumpy narrow road to the cottage - some huge pot holes so be careful. We couldn’t use the parking space for the whole duration of our trip as someone had parked half across it - but this didn’t matter as we parked on the cobbled road. I didn’t find the sofa comfortable as you kind of sink right into it and the base cushions slide off - also too many fluffy cushions! But really that is not a big deal (personal preference) and we had a super lovely time. Thank you for the bottle of wine too. It was appreciated. Would definitely recommend this cottage.
