Guests say

Sycamore Lodge is highly praised for its cleanliness, peaceful location, and comfort. Guests appreciate the immaculate grounds, cosy accommodation, and friendly hosts. The lodge is well-equipped for a relaxing stay, with many enjoying the views and the proximity to beaches and countryside. Some minor maintenance issues are noted, but overall, guests look forward to returning.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The majority of guests report the lodge as spotlessly clean and tidy, contributing to a comfortable stay. There is a single mention of food spillage, which seems to be an isolated incident rather than a common concern.

The lodge is appreciated for its quiet and peaceful setting with sea views and proximity to beaches and moors. Some guests find it a bit isolated, requiring a car for beach access and local amenities.

Guests find the lodge cosy and comfortable, with adequate heating and furnishings. There are a few comments about the beds being comfortable and the lodge providing a restful break, although there is a single mention of an uncomfortable green light in a bedroom.

Facilities are generally good, with well-stocked kitchens and clean grounds. However, there are comments about the need for maintenance on wood cladding, a cracked bath panel, and outdated Wi-Fi information. The Wi-Fi connectivity issues are a recurring theme.

While the reviews reflect a friendly and helpful host, there are no specific mentions of gifts or special touches that would fall under the category of thoughtfulness. Therefore, this score cannot be provided.

About this property

Danby 6 miles. This attractive lodge is set on a small site on the edge of Liverton village in the North York Moors National Park. In an elevated position, it has far-reaching views over open countryside and is well placed for exploring the nearby Heritage coastline and the beautiful surrounding moorland. There is an open plan living area, traditionally furnished, with a compact modern kitchen and a comfortable sitting area with a log-effect electric fire. French doors open onto a decked veranda, where you can relax with a glass of wine and drink in the glorious vista. With two cosy bedrooms and a shared bathroom, families are well catered for in this welcoming holiday lodge. Outside, there are communal lawned grounds with plenty of space for children to play. The immediate area is a walkers’ paradise, with a network of public footpaths and trails to follow, while the historic coastal villages of Staithes and Runswick Bay are just a few minutes’ drive. Wander around the quaint narrow streets and alleyways, stroll down to the small harbours, or enjoy a cream tea in one of the quirky cafes. Both young and old will enjoy crabbing in the rock pools and building sandcastles on the beach. The Danby Moors Centre is well worth a visit, with its interesting exhibitions and guided walks, while the excellent tea room there offers tempting refreshments. The elegant Victorian spa town of Saltburn is close by, with pretty ornamental gardens, an historic pier and a unique gravity-driven cliff lift, which begins at the top promenade and goes down to the beach below. With restaurants, cafes and independent shops, there is plenty to while away a pleasant afternoon. Popular Whitby is an absolute must, with its iconic Abbey reached by the 199 ancient stone steps and its long sandy beaches. Enjoy fish and chips while looking out to sea, or perhaps a cocktail in one of the harbour bars. A comfortable lodge in a wonderful part of the country. Note: This property is next to Ref. 920687, together they sleep 8.

The village of Danby nestles in the beautiful and peaceful Esk Valley in the heart of The North York Moors. The village has two pubs (both serving food), a bakery and tea room. There is also an excellent National Park Visitor Centre at Danby Lodge – an historic building set in 13 acres of riverside pasture, with facilities which include exhibitions, nature trails and tea rooms. Danby also boasts the ruins of a 14th century castle and the only remaining working water mill on the River Esk. The scenic Esk Valley Railway line runs through the village on its way to Whitby.

Great area to explore, me and my son loved cycling and hiking there. If you are an EV driver like me there are plenty of reasonably priced chargers at the North Road car park, just swipe your card and charge.

The only recommendations I have is to put blackout curtains in the bedroom and provide comfier mattresses. Other than that it was perfect. Very central to visit places, peaceful, lovely views and well equipped.

It's a shame there isn't a list of information about local stuff as there are walks in the area but we only discovered the leaflets on our last day. Skinningrove and the Land of Iron are nearby and worth a visit. The library in Loftus has leaflets. Also useful to know about the food shops available in Loftus. I would recommend the Lodges as they are a good base. There are a couple of free car parks in Loftus and you can travel a fair distance on the bus.
