Gullsway: The Annexe rests on the first floor of the main house, offering superb views over Polzeath Beach and the bay. Sleeping up to five guests, this charming retreat is perfect for families looking to experience the beauty of North-West Cornwall. After a day of meandering coastal paths and exploring local villages, look forward to unwinding in the open-plan living space, resting upon the table and chairs as you plan where to visit next. Wash away the day with a quick shower or enjoy a deep soak within the bathroom, before finding the bedrooms to catch some rest; there’s a double and a triple with three single beds to choose from. Shared with the other apartments, the garden is a lovely spot to decompress as you take in those picturesque vistas that will be so hard to forget. With access to plenty of coastal delights, this is a lovely annexe for family gatherings or catch-ups with friends. Note: The Annexe is the first-floor accommodation of the main house and can only be rented alongside a booking of Kittiwake (1080270) or September tide (1080273)- it is not available for independent rental.
Polzeath, a seaside resort with a golden beach backed by rock pools, is regarded as one of the top surfing beaches in the country. Wadebridge, a prominent market town nestled alongside the River Camel with a variety of shops, pubs, and restaurants, as well as North Cornwall's sole family-owned cinema, is just over seven miles away.

The main bedroom in particular has great views of the beach and out to sea and is large and comfortable - but it's all good - giving 9 beds in total between the two properties. Note for Sykes/Brays/owners: We found the door into Kittiwake from the hallway a little problematic - particularly as it was a wet week and so going outside and back in through the Kittiwake door wasn't ideal. We really wanted to use the middle door often - but given the bolt on the inside was the only way to shut it fully, this was tricky. Some thoughts: As with the door at the top of the stairs, could a strong door-closer be put on the lower door? Also, could a Yale-style lock be put on the door, with a key on the Annexe key-ring - so that Annexe folk can get in and out of Kittiwake securely? The two properties together make such a good combination - it would be great if they could connect a little more easily for guests. This increased flexibility and security would allay fears when strangers are in Sandpiper (as with our stay this time), while allowing easy access up and down stairs.

The Annexe seemed to us to be brighter and more spacious than in the pictures. Remember that it is a traditional Cornish holiday house, at a very fair price for the location - so, not perfect and modern, but perfectly acceptable for an enjoyable week's holiday, and with original features. Heaters and double-glazing made it very cosy even in February. Views are great, as noted in other reviews. The Annexe and Kittiwake aren't directly connected - you really need to go outside and back in again via another door (although you can go through one of the Kittiwake bedrooms at a pinch, but that's a bit awkward). But Kittiwake is big enough to take everyone for meals, lounging about, etc., if needed - or you can split up between the different spaces. So... quirky. Some points noted by my family for the owners/Sykes: - single mattresses very comfortable, double mattress not so much - new loo brush please - the key box for The Annexe is labelled Kestrel - an old name assumably - but it is a little confusing if one arrives late at night! - the code for the key box wasn't included in the email sent to us - I assumed there wasn't one until I got there and we couldn't get in! These are small things. Given the price and location, this was an excellent addition to Kittiwake.

The only thing that makes it bearable is the view from kittiwake which is hired alongside the annexe
