Guests say

Guests consistently praise 'The Porthole' for its stunning views, prime location, and homely feel. The property is celebrated for its cleanliness, well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable furnishings. Visitors appreciate the thoughtful touches, such as a welcoming cream tea and the convenience of local amenities. The picturesque setting in Newton Ferrers and the property's charm make it a highly recommended and memorable stay.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The majority of reviews highlight the property's cleanliness, with guests often impressed by the freshness upon arrival. There are a few isolated comments about dust and a specific incident of a bad smell, but these seem to be exceptions in an otherwise consistent record of cleanliness.

The location is frequently described as breathtaking, with easy access to local shops, pubs, and beautiful walks. The estuary setting and proximity to the village centre are highly valued, contributing to the property's appeal.

Guests find the property comfortable, with special mentions of comfy beds and powerful showers. Some concerns are raised about the size of towels for teenagers and the coldness of the sitting room, but overall, the comfort level is rated highly.

The property is well-equipped, with a kitchen that satisfies those who enjoy cooking and amenities that support a relaxing holiday. There are minor maintenance issues mentioned, such as a problematic dishwasher and door handles, but these do not significantly detract from the overall experience.

While guests express gratitude for the welcoming touches like cream tea and cupboard essentials, there is not enough information to determine if such gestures are consistent across all stays. Therefore, while appreciated, these gifts are not guaranteed for future guests.

About this property

The Porthole is a stylish semi detached house 150 yards from the centre of Newton Ferrers. Facing south across the river, it is excellent spacious accommodation for relaxing and enjoying the popular village. Head down the 18 steep steps (handrail) from the road and through your gate and leave your coats and boots in the porch. The kitchen is smart and bright with its granite worktops and little breakfast area for a morning croissant and the papers. With its soothing colours and polished wood floor, you can curl up and chill out beside the wood burning stove in the sitting room or open the French windows to the sunny terrace on a fine day. On this level is a bunk bedroom for the youngsters, or head up the steep narrow stairs to two more bedrooms, both with light flooding in from balconies where you can step outside and observe life on the river. As well as the two balconies, you have the little terrace for sitting out or barbecuing, peacefully sheltered by a pretty wisteria. Wander into the heart of the village to buy essentials and to eat out at the charming waterside inns, or walk further to National Trust woodland and the scenic cliff top Coast Path. If you feel like getting more active, take part in wakeboarding or paddle boarding trips, play tennis or go riding. Beaches at Mothecombe and Wembury are not to be missed, both gems on this South Devon coast. And for the city bright lights head to Plymouth for interesting history and all sorts of attractions, shops and restaurants. The Porthole is a great cottage for recharging your energy levels over a fabulous view or exploring the area.
