  The owner's direct contact with us was potentially helpful, but in fact the keys were not where they were said to be by him but were in the key safe as expected.

  The name sign for the property is barely legible and should be renewed as a matter of urgency. The owners directions to the property were misleading, although we recognize that navigating Devon lanes is a nightmare. For the information of future visitors to the property can we respectfully suggest the following: the easiest route to Toad Hall in the final stages is to proceed from Totnes via Harbertonford until the BP filling station is reached on the junction with the Dartmouth road on the left. Proceed past the turn to Dartmouth for a few hundred metres and look out for the LEFT turn to SLAPTON. Take this LEFT turn and proceed until there is a RIGHT turn marked with a white finger post. Take the LEFT turn immediately beyond this RIGHT turn. This lane goes directly to the final destination. Toad Hall is on the left behind the first group of houses that will appear. Turn in left at the sign "Middle Hutcherleigh" between the buildings and make an immediate - and very tight - right turn that will take you past Toad Hall, which is a single storey building on the left, hopefully with a renewed name sign. Further ahead down the slope and round a left curve in the track is the parking area. We think that a teapot should be provided. The food bin was in a disgusting state and wasn't where it was supposed to be.

  This cottage was within 20 miles of many pretty beaches and it was only a few minutes drive to the SW Coast path.

  There is also a really lovely riverside walk within walking distance. Not to be missed. Also local woods. The cottage has lovely views from the upstairs sitting room and was in a very quiet village. Very clean. The kitchen/dining and seating area has lots of natural light and was a nice space to sit in the evening as we could not eat in restaurants due to COVID during our stay. The enclosed garden is lovely to sit in when the sun is shining, which it did every day for our holiday in April! In previous reviews the bathroom was described as very small, it is small, like an en-suite, but was perfectly adequate for us ( husband is 6 ft). Hosts were friendly, but we hardly saw them. They did kindly provide us with Milk, bread, fresh eggs, honey jam and marmalade, which was really nice and we saw their hens every morning around the grounds, the eggs were very tasty. We have stayed in many cottages and we loved this one for the location especially, it was a very relaxing stay. We felt very safe everywhere we visited, COVID guidelines were well adhered to.   We would wholeheartedly recommend Cloverwell cottage for the high quality of its facilities, cleanliness, and welcome from the owners.

  We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cloverwell, with the unexpected bonus of wonderful sunny weather. Unfortunately the booking process was unclear and complicated, and so this comment is addressed to Sykes. We found Cloverwell on Dog Friendly Cottages, and started a booking with them. This was stopped at the payment stage - "our problem, not yours" the page said - when a company called Snaptrip intervened. A combination of phone numbers to call, new websites to process and the discovery of very unhappy reviews of a company called Sykes followed. Consequently we were concerned about what we might find when we arrived. As described above Cloverwell was lovely and there were no problems at all. But a day into our stay a company called Countryside Cottages contacted us to see how the stay was going and to offer its services if required. Why are so many different companies involved? What is the relationship between them all?

  I absolutely loved Cloverwell!

  It had everything I needed and a few little extra's like e.g. eggs and bread left by the owner and even some little extra's for my dog. A great place to spend a few quiet days in a small village. However, having said all that I was not very happy that when I arrived at the cottage late in the afternoon (almost dark) after a long drive the key was not in the place where it was supposed to be. I had used the code for the little box by the door but the box was empty, no key anywhere. I rang the bell of the owner's house but no one seemed at home. I was not sure what to do, this was actually quite upsetting as I was on my own in a place totally unknown to me. Eventually - much later - a man appeared from a shed at the back and he turned out to be the owner. He then gave me the key and all he said was that this had never happened before, no apology at all. So that was really not a good start to my stay at Cloverwell.

  We arrived on a dark very wet evening.

  It was impossible to find this place. We eventually had to call at a house to ask for help. He agreed it was not very easy to find. Put up some directions. The cottage was freezing cold. Had a radiator in lounge area, which we later discovered, was not operable due to no gas in the property!!!. We sat with blankets around us until we got the fire going. The TV did not work for the whole of our visit. Misadvertising. Loads of DVD’s which proved TV did not work. Now the bed. We are both in our 70’s. The person next to the wall had to get the other person to move every time they get up. The only place that was warm all the time was the toilet area. Not much good. We would never visit this property again. It needs a lot of jobs doing to it. Ps no freezer compartment in the fridge. Couldn’t get the cooker top ever to work.
