Guests say

Fairleigh Whitby is a well-equipped and spacious cottage with a modern kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, and multiple bathrooms, making it suitable for large groups or families. Its proximity to Whitby harbour and town centre is appreciated by guests, despite some concerns over parking and road noise.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The property generally appears clean, with several reviews praising its tidiness. However, there are mentions of minor issues such as dust, cobwebs, and slug trails, suggesting room for improvement in cleaning standards.

The location is good for walking into town, but the property is on a busy junction, which some found noisy. Parking is also a challenge for some guests, although the proximity to local attractions is a plus.

Guests find the beds comfy and the house cosy, especially noting the well-appointed kitchen and the ample sofa space. Some guests suggested improvements to the mattresses and seating arrangements for larger groups.

The house is equipped with essential facilities like a dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer, and guests enjoy the multiple bathrooms. However, there are reports of maintenance issues such as broken appliances and the need for minor repairs.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

About this property

Fairleigh is an impressive period semi-detached property, well located close to the centre of Whitby. Ideally located for touring the North York Moors National Park and the Heritage Coast, it is perfect for a superb family holiday, being just a short stroll to the centre of this popular seaside resort. Set over three floors, it has been beautifully and tastefully renovated to a high standard, whilst retaining many original features and traditional charm. The ground floor features a modern well-equipped kitchen and a separate dining room with a large wall-mounted TV, where families can gather and enjoy a home-cooked meal. The spacious and comfortable sitting room has a warming electric fireplace with a wooden mantle piece and a large bay window throwing in plenty of light. Also handy cloakroom and utility just through the kitchen, where the dishwasher and the washing machine and the tumble dryer are as well as being able to hang your coats and all your shoes and boots here too and then shut the door on them so they are not in use, then a toilet and basin in the boiler room beyond completes the ground floor. The four spacious bedrooms, all with wall-mounted TVs are set over the two upper floors, three of them with en-suite shower rooms and one with an additional sofa bed, offering flexibility in sleeping arrangements. Two of the bedrooms have far reaching views to the distant hills. The contemporary family bathroom is situated on the half landing and has a lovely deep freestanding bath and a walk-in shower. At the front of the house is an patio, while there is off-road parking for one car at the back, a rare find in Whitby. A ten-minute walk down Prospect Hill brings you into the hustle and bustle of this historic town, with its narrow streets and alleyways to explore, the cobbled market square and abundance of independent shops. Partake in a scrumptious afternoon tea in the numerous quaint tea rooms, enjoy cocktails overlooking the harbour and not to be missed are the renowned fish and chips. Whitby boasts safe sandy beaches, coastal cruises and an attractive harbour. Climb the 199 steps up to the famous Whitby Abbey, where you can join the Cleveland Way for an invigorating cliff top walk, sure to blow the cobwebs away. For the more adventurous, book an evening ghost walk, sure to be a big hit with everyone! With the stunning scenery of the moors to explore and the rugged coastline to discover, this charming property makes a wonderful base for families and friends throughout the year.

Whitby is a seaside town in North Yorkshire, England, situated near the River Esk on the East Coast. The town developed as a shipping port during the middle ages, but it only became a tourist spot in the Georgian period, with the construction of the railway. With its close proximity to the North York Moors and the abundance of historical architecture, this is not a place to be missed.

However, there was a lack of some basic amenities- no hand soap, no washing up liquid, barely enough loo roll to last one night for 6 of us, not enough cutlery- only 4 spoons for 6 people staying, not enough hot water for all 6 of us to have a shower- there’s a lovely bath in the main bathroom which we were unable to use as it would’ve taken up all the hot water! Poor advertising of position of house as it is on a busy junction on the main road into Whitby. No set of instructions / booklet and no obvious recycling facilities available, no information about local area, places to go. Sky TV advertised as being available in all rooms, however we found this to only be available downstairs and in main bedroom. While there is parking for one small car, it is very difficult to manoeuvre in and out due to not encroaching on neighbours space. On arrival there was a strong smell of wet dog which we tried to cover up but could still smell it by the end of the week. Seating area outside is a worn out old bench on a patio that is directly opposite main road and therefore not a space you would want to sit out in. Wallpaper was peeling in a few rooms, paint was peeling off in the lounge, kitchen floor looked grubby and was lumpy toward the utility- could be a trip hazard for anyone with poor balance. Overall this was not good value for the money, would not come back again

Description of property does not indicate that it sits on a very busy and dangerous road junction . Description does not accurately reflect the difficulty of accessing the car space nor of parking one’s car particularly when there are cars parked in the guest house next door . Car space does not take a medium / large car making it difficult to unload one’s vehicle .
