About this property

A cosy, dog friendly wood cabin in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, just a mile from safe, sandy Broad Haven beach along a woodland path. Enjoy wonderful views from the deck, country walks from the door, and easy access to the sea. Whimsy by the Sea has WIFI, a panoramic enclosed deck and private dining patio, two parking spaces, and use of 100-acres of private grounds. Train station 15 mins.

Explore the wild coast of Pembrokeshire from this cosy dog friendly cabin less than a mile the sea. In the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Whimsy by the Sea overlooks a tranquil wooded valley near the safe and sandy beach of Broad Haven. A paradise for wildlife and dogs, go for an off-lead walk on the 100-acre private estate (shared with the other cabins), or hike along the Coast Path (10 minutes walk away). You can also walk to the beach, cafes and bars of Broad Haven along the woodland path (20 mins), or it’s a few minutes by car.

Sit back on the enclosed deck and soak up the spectacular views of wild woodland and rolling meadows. Timber Hill's private valley is a haven for local wildlife, and you can see owls, bats, badgers, foxes, and all sorts of song birds. Located in Britain's only coastal National Park, with minimal light pollution and glorious starlit night skies, it’s a truly remarkable and tranquil place to spend your holidays.

Feeling active? Go for a surf in Broad Haven, try Stand Up Paddle (SUP) at Newgale Beach, learn kite surfing, or book a coasteering trip. Hike along the coast path, swim in one of the many quiet coves off the beaten track, or see how many different sea birds you can spot wheeling off the cliffs. Take a boat trip to Skomer Island and see the puffins, or visit one of the picturesque towns and harbour villages along the coast like nearby St David’s, Solva, Porthgain and Little Haven.

please note: The minimum stay is two nights off peak, 4 nights during bank holidays, and 5 nights during school holidays. There is a cleaning fee of £95. Bed linen and towels are included. The cleaning fee is on top of the prices shown in the availability calendar. Dogs are £30 each.

Accommodation in the cabin

Whimsy by the Sea is a cedar wood cabin all on one level, entered via a few steps up onto the deck. Inside the entrance door there’s a coat cupboard with hanging rail, small heater, hooks and space to take off and store shoes and wellies. The cabin’s light-filled open plan living space has a double-glazed glass wall looking out over the woods and opening onto the deck. There are two sofas, an electric log burner, a dining area with a table and chairs for four, and a compact, but well-equipped kitchen with fridge-freezer, dishwasher, oven and microwave. The main bedroom has a king size double bed and a separate dressing room (also the single bedroom). The other bedroom has a 140*190cm double bed and storage space. There's a bathroom with WC, hand basin, electric towel rail, and a bath with an electric shower overhead.

Note: the cabin is not suitable for young children due to steep drops, sharp edges and unprotected hot surfaces. Unfortunately it's also not wheel chair accessible due to the steep slope from the carpark, and the gravel path to the deck steps.

There is a TV for watching DVDs only (we have lots of films). Unfortunately it’s not a Smart TV, so you'll need to bring your laptop for streaming. There's also a small library with paperbacks and wildlife reference books in the dressing room, and some board games and jigsaws too. The cabin has electric heating provided by modern, immediately responsive electric radiators. There's also an overhead fan in the living area and additional portable fans for hot summer days. The windows at the front and back open too, so you can get a good through draught of air.

The outside space

Whimsy by the Sea has a sunny south facing position surrounded by grass, bushes and trees. Sit out on the deck running the width of the cabin, and soak up the amazing treetop views over the valley (the deck is gated too, great for dogs). At the side, there’s a dining patio and an outdoor tap; and there’s also private parking for two cars.

Bikes, boards, SUPs and other equipment can be stored outside in a sheltered area at the back of the cabin or under the deck. Neither area is enclosed.

The local area

There are several restaurants, a cafe and a chip shop in the local village of Broad Haven, plus a couple of pubs and bars (and more in Little Haven, the next cove along). You can buy the essentials from the well-stocked village shop, and get anything else, in nearby Haverfordwest with its range of supermarkets (including Tesco, Marks & Spencer and Lidl), eateries and shops. Little Haven is also home to Lobster & Mor, a wonderful deli shop offering high end craft and local foods, freshly prepared sandwiches, barista coffeen and side dishes to take away.

Whimsy by the Sea is in Timber Hill, a peaceful 100-acre family-run estate shared with around 40 other Scandinavian-style wood cabins, many of which are also privately owned. The layout of the grounds has been designed with peace, privacy and nature in mind, making it the perfect natural hideaway by the sea. Although there are other cabins around, it feels very private and secluded.

Booking conditions

The minimum stay is two nights off peak, 4 nights during bank holidays, and 5 nights during school holidays. No check out possible on 24th, 25th or 26th of December.

Bookings are not confirmed until they are accepted by me and payment has been received.

For stays of 4 nights or less, full payment is required in advance and it is non-refundable. For stays of 5 nights or more, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure a booking, by bank transfer (free) or PayPal (5% fee). The balance is due 6 weeks before the holiday start date. The booking is non-refundable in the event of a cancellation, no-show or curtailment of stay. Holiday cancellation insurance is strongly recommended. Bookings may be postponed for up to 12 months if requested at least 2 weeks before the holiday start date, and at the owner's discretion.

House rules

The cabin is not suitable for children under 10 due to the steep drops, unprotected sharp edges and potentially hot surfaces.

The cabin is non-smoking (no vaping, heats or e-cigarettes inside either). Candles are not allowed due to the fire risk.

Up to 4 well-behaved dogs are welcome (sorry, no other animals), but they should be kept off the beds and furniture. If this is impossible, you must bring your own throws and bed linen.

General notes

The private deck is enclosed, but the lawned area is not. We have portable fencing that you can use to close off the dining patio while you are using it, but it should be rolled up and put away afterwards. Free pocket wifi is provided, and you can also pay for access to Timber Hill’s wifi network. Although there is usually good mobile and wifi reception, it can cut out at times, especially if it’s stormy or very windy.

As a courtesy to other people staying in the grounds, dogs should be kept on lead in the immediate vicinity of the cabins, but they are allowed to be off-lead elsewhere on the estate as long as they are under control.
