Guests say

Gardd Ynys is a well-received cottage in North Wales, praised for its stunning views, spaciousness, and well-equipped kitchen. The property's gardens are appreciated for their charm and wildlife, contributing to a peaceful and relaxing stay. Some guests noted firm mattresses and minor maintenance issues, but these did not significantly detract from the overall positive experience.

Most guests found the property to be clean and well-maintained, with only a few mentioning areas that could benefit from deeper cleaning or attention to detail. The overall impression is of a tidy and comfortable environment.

The location is highly praised for its beautiful views and tranquility, with easy access to local attractions and towns. The proximity to nature and wildlife is a highlight, although the nearby busy road is noted.

The property is generally considered comfortable, with a warm atmosphere and great showers. However, several guests mentioned that the mattresses, particularly in the double rooms, were too firm, suggesting the need for mattress toppers or replacements.

Facilities are well-regarded, especially the kitchen and the playroom for children. Some guests reported issues with showers, heating, and a need for updates on certain items like the sofa bed and pool table, indicating room for improvement in maintenance.

While many guests expressed satisfaction with the amenities and the property's suitability for families and pets, there is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the owner. Therefore, a score cannot be provided.

About this property

Barmouth 5 miles. A hidden gem, with plenty to offer in a beautiful setting, Gardd Ynys is a wonderful, detached house set within mature grounds and woodland of around one and a half acres. Overlooking the Mawddach Estuary and the Cader Idris Range, it is a fantastic, rural getaway for friends and family wishing to spend time together whilst exploring this beautiful coastline. The traditional farmhouse kitchen has an AGA and a quarry-tiled floor; a fantastic place for family gatherings and planning the day ahead over a morning cup of coffee, or a leisurely breakfast. The first floor sitting room has a high ceiling and exposed purlins, a warming woodburning stove, a picture window and glazed French windows which lead out onto the balcony, letting in lots of light and framing the wonderful views which extend beyond pastureland towards the Mawddach Estuary. There are two twin bedrooms accessed off a split-level landing, plus two king-size double bedrooms on the first floor, the master of which boasts a feature stone wall, an en-suite shower room and dual aspect windows enjoying a wonderful view of the garden and the estuary in the distance. The property is approached through a pillared, wrought iron gated entrance and up a driveway, leading to a substantial expanse of parking. There are large, lawned gardens on the approach. At the front of the cottage, there is a broad, paved terrace with steps down to the more formal lawned garden, affording views of the Cader Idris range and the Mawddach Estuary, with a pond filled with bushes and bordering pastureland. There are numerous seating areas from which to admire the beautiful surroundings, including the sheltered loggia and a picnic table on the raised decking. This whole area is a haven for walkers and climbers, while the coastal town of Barmouth is just five miles away, with a beautiful sandy beach and an array of shops, pubs and restaurants. It is also ideal for sailing and watersports enthusiasts, whilst the area provides some brilliant mountain biking opportunities such as Coed-y-Brenin, the largest mountain bike trail centre in Wales, just nine miles away. Further afield, explore the stunning architectural gem of Portmeirion, take a historical trip to Harlech Castle, or enjoy the industrial heritage of the Blaenau Ffestiniog slate works, its steam railway, ZipWorld Titan or Bounce Below, an underground trampoline. This lovely cottage offers a fabulous, rural retreat and its comfortable accommodation provides an ideal getaway for family and friends alike.

The on suite shower leaks into the downstairs bathroom. The heating seems unresponsive to the Hive controller, even when set to Heat/Off some of the radiators come on. The two tall radiators in the upstairs lounge wouldn't come on at all. All this being said none of this detracted from our enjoyment. We LOVED our holiday, the location and the property and looked to book up for next year and was disappointed to find it couldn't be booked after March '25.

It was warm, clean and comfortable, with great showers. The views to the front are fabulous and the whole house is geared to making the most of them with a balcony off the first floor sitting room and a downstairs loggia with table and chairs off the kitchen. We enjoyed both on a daily basis despite the changeable weather. The back of the house faces a small hill with trees so stays cool and it also considerably softens the noise from the main road. Directly behind the house, the road is very busy and quite dangerous to walk along so, although there are many walking paths close by, you do need a car. The gardens are lovely and we really enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to going back.

A few maintenance issues, particularly in the the ground floor bathroom but didn't detract from a great stay. If only the cleaners would just occasionally clean the shower waste trap in the en suite, very unpleasant! Would go again.
