What our customers say about their holidays

Kestrel Cottage is a really cosy and warm away from it all retreat.
The weather was horrendous when we went but you wouldnât have really known that from inside. The cottage is well equipped but we think would have benefitted from a proper arm chair in the living room as there were three of us and we struggled a little to get comfy for the evening. The dogs loved the space to run around outside chasing a ball and the rear enclosed garden was perfect for letting them out in the evening. Our bed was a little firm for us but thatâs always personal taste, but we were always warm enough. It is a rural escape and because of that we did encounter a few problems with the WiFi, phone signal and tv reception but as I said the weather was awful so may have contributed to that. All in all though we had a lovely peaceful stay and the board games provided were really useful. The owners are really nice and did check in on us from time to time and as other people have said the scones, butter and jam are a really thoughtful touch.

We were expecting the slight challenges in dropping off the luggage and the steep staircase - the listing info was accurate.
Understand the shared walkway to the cottage is not the owners's sole responsibility but it really is terrible, lined with tall weeds, very littered and generally extremely scruffy. Cottage itself was very clean, top floor beautiful. Some bathroom tiles getting a little mouldy. As a self catering cottage we were expecting to be able to sit at a dining table to eat but there were no chairs, and only 3 easy chairs so for families of 4 presumably someone would be sitting on the floor. The back garden was incredibly weedy, the garden furniture could do with rubbing down and re-treating - it just felt unloved and in need of a little TLC. The TV upstairs was not tuned in and we could only watch Netflix or similar. These are just some honest observations. The cottage is well-equipped, was clean, lovely bed linen and the top floor is great. It was good to note the owners had observed some of the visitors comments (yes we found the Prosecco glasses!)

What a wonderful cottage.
As I had to attend a course in a nearby village, Tom(owner) was more than willing to let us arrive an hour early so that I could leave most of my luggage and get the feel of the cottage, before rushing off for 2days. There was milk, tea, coffee and cakes waiting for us and unlike many other self-catering properties all the basics were in place. No need to buy toilet rolls, tissues, soap or cleaning items. Clean and comfortable and beautifully warm. All we needed was there, and the wall map of places to visit and folder of corresponding information, was inspired. Information on how to find the property, including a small local map, meant we already knew that there were supermarkets etc near by so food shopping could be done on arrival. The garden was very safe for our dog. We have already passed on the details to several friends as we thought it was great value for money, a real âhome from homeâ. Many thanks,Tom and Liz.

Our expectations of Sykes cottages are always high, as they always have been met, but Kestrel cottage exceeded our expectations!
Tom and Liz are excellent hosts, warm, friendly, caring, and supportive. The cottage is extremely comfortable and very well equipped. It is the best we've stayed in with Sykes. The location is fabulous with wonderful views. Beautifully peaceful and restful it forms a great hub for walks and visits in the area and the nearby village of Silsden covers most needs. The cottage contains a lot of material on places of interest and a folder of excellent walks. We especially enjoyed visits to Saltaire and Haworth, to see the Bröntes parsonage museum. The ride on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway was wonderful and Bolton Abbey and walks excellent. The highlight of the walks was Ingleton Waterfalls which although a bit of a drive it was spectacular. An absolutely fantastic holiday!

Wonderful cottage that has been fantastically converted from it original purpose as farm buildings.
It is furnished and equipped to very high standards. Wonderful hosts, very friendly and welcoming would definitely want to return. Set in a magnificent location overlooking the town of Silsden and with beautiful views of Yorkshire Dales countryside. Tasty homemade scones and homemade damson jam were there to welcome us. Booking through booking.com didn't provide the best experience as our details were not passed to Sykes properly. Glad I rang to verify directions as the booking.com directions were wrong. Once through to Sykes the lady sorted things out very efficiently, would have been easier if we had been aware of Sykes and booked through them.
