What our customers say about their holidays

The dirtiest place I’ve ever stayed, we left early as it was so grubby and unloved.

The location is excellent and this should be lovely but it’s really NOT! Grease running down the walls in a tatty kitchen, dirty fittings and crockery,. Microwave with broken light and food hanging from top. Grill pan with grease and covered with foil, oven knobs held on by sticky tabs. Toaster full of crumbs and as grubby as the kettle. There were spiderweb over light fixtures and ceilings, smelly rugs and broken sofa. All equipment is well past PAT testing including the boiler that is located in a bedroom wardrobe that is also used to store flammable Christmas decorations, the bedroom has a broken smoke alarm taped up. Fans in bathroom totally encrusted with dust, rusty dirty hinges on toilets, poor shower that was also grubby. Door fell off the freezer compartment of the old tatty fridge freezer, there was a note left to say they were ‘looking into it’ ( same issue noted Sept 2022!!) Holes in the skirting board that looked very suspicious! Sofa is smelly, stained and uncomfortable being held up by sheets of ply boards . We complained about the state of the place it took 4 days for cleaners to arrive and they then left the place worse, thick grime from the dirty bathroom fans left all over the bathroom taps, not pleasant when you go to clean your teeth! I was informed by Sykes on the Saturday when I initially reported my concerns that I had to give the owner opportunity to clean, before an alternative accommodation could be considered. Cleaners arrived Tuesday 4 days later ( we were only saying 7 days) I had to continue to chase for information and use a variety of media platforms. We ate our meals out as the kitchen was too dirty to use. This added extra expense to our holiday, but I don’t go on holiday to clean someone else’s house. There are however many lovely places to eat in the village. We left 2 days early as we didn’t want to stay in the dirt and smell and there was little chance of it being cleaned properly. We requested a partial refund as we decided that we just couldn’t stay there. It was immediately refused by the owner, no discussion. There are far nicer places to stay in the area. I don’t usually write reviews however I hope nobody else has the same poor experience and after service from Sykes that we received. There will be little likelihood of my report being published but something needs to be done to address the poor standard of this accommodation and the unreflective advertising posted and promoted by Sykes.

The property is beautiful, lovely layout and decorated beautifully.

It was clean and it’s fully equipped too with all the crockery and cookware you’d need and we were even left a small milk in the fridge, some shortbread biscuits and there was tea, coffee, coffee pods for the nespresso machine, washing powder, dishwasher tablets, tea towels, kitchen paper - all the things I brought with me we didn’t need as it was all provided. There’s a tv in the living area and bedroom and both were smart tvs which worked great with the brilliant wifi. The hot tub is lovely, although wished it had more of a view - such as in the front garden area it’s a shame these are split areas although we obviously appreciated the privacy of where the hot tub actually is but just not the view of the iron barn next door. It’s also great that it’s dog friendly, and it’s peaceful and quite remote but still close to main parts of the Cotswolds and attractions. The only downside was the extra charge for the hot tub - this is a premium property and it’s expensive to stay here as it is and I think the hot tub should have been included in the price as it’s unlikely people who are booking this property are not going to use it - for us it was the main reason for booking this particular property. I only found out about the £50 extra charge for the hot tub 5 days before we were due to arrive, which is lucky as I would’ve been disappointed had we arrived and the hot tub not been filled. It was not clearly advertised that there was an additional charge for the hot tub when we booked through booking.com (unlike the £25 dog charge which is clearly advertised and I rang up Sykes cottages after booking online to pay that fee - had I the hot tub fee been clearly advertised I would’ve paid this at the same time or probably would’ve booked a different property where the hot tub was included). This was very disappointing and really put a dampener on our birthday celebration minibreak before we even set off

The cottage is ideally located in the centre of the village and is full of character.

Yes there are extractor fans from adjacent restaurants (as mentioned in other reviews) but they did not cause an issue. Parking was also no problem in the council car park which uses an app so you could easily extend the parking duration without having to visit the car park. Kitchen was well equipped but the chopping board had mould on so we didn't use it and it needs replacing. L shaped sofa in lounge was clean but difficult to get up from as it was so deep but was comfortable. Lovely light conservatory and safe enclosed garden make this property ideal for dogs. However garden could benefit from being tidied up and removing some unnecessary items (there were 2 barbecues and the chimnea!) Also the conservatory roof had rather a lot of moss on the glass which needs removing. Whilst all of the interior doors shut some would not stay shut (back bedroom) as the latch would not engage. Great to have a downstairs toilet in addition to the main bathroom (shower which was not slippery and didn't leak as stated in another review) but should provide spare toilet rolls. In the listing it states the stairs are steep and may be difficult for people with limited mobility - I would not describe the stairs as steep and were very easy to use. We enjoyed our stay at Inglenook Cottage with our 2 dogs as it was ideally located to explore the village and was full of character. It was probably the nicest cottage we have stayed in for a long time. However it could just benefit from some minor maintenance to maintain a high standard.

This is a great town home style cottage only steps away from Windrush .

... Water only steps away. Keeping in mind that we traveled during the hottest summer in years, and right in the middle of the height of tourist season(!); this was a great escape. No a/c for concerned westerners...but ample fans and cool nights made up for that... and though steps away from all the action...quiet retreat. The small back garden is a wonderful respite, great variety of entertainment (DVD, Satellite, Netflix and Cable)... kitchen was well stocked and all appliances were just right for a stay... though a bit crushed by the crowds and toasted by the heat... staying at Inglenook convinced us that we want to return to Bourton. A great place -- you won't be disappointed! Will not come during tourist season... really a problem as busloads of tourists would arrive in the morning and camp out by the river -- with large chairs, boom boxes, inflatable pools -- at the end of the day trash littered the banks. But...someone came by in the evening and cleaned it all up. Once the busloads left (around the end of the day) -- quiet... by 10 p.m. at night... completely quiet, beautiful setting, but we won't return this time of year, but we WILL return! Inglenook -- however -- is a great 2 BR cottage with VERY nice neighbors! (Candy shop... Salon... Tea House and Pub -- what else do you need?!).
