What our customers say about their holidays

Stay at y Cartws 2nd to 9th September 2023 Firstly, itâs fair to say that the accommodation is satisfactory, although basically equipped, with old-fashioned appliances and no dishwasher.
The cottage itself is semi-detached and the particulars carefully avoid mentioning that the other half is occupied by a small but busy dental practice. This means that there is a steady flow of patientâs vehicles coming and going every half hour or so. If the car park is full, they leave the car right by the âoutside seatingâ area. This is a factor that should be born in mind particularly for families with small children or dogs and should be made clear in the cottage particulars so that potential customers can make a decision in advance whether or not to book. The outside seating is attractively constructed from horse shoes but is extremely uncomfortable, lacking cushioning or a glass top for the table. Opposite to the cottage, there is a small walled patch of grass, along side a disused greenhouse, which would make an ideal and safe garden but it seems unlikely that the owners could be bothered to set it up and probably too mean to buy furniture for it! The ownersâ 2 small terriers spend a good part of their day yapping, fairly annoyingly. They are not restricted so come around and scrounge if you are eating outside. Also, if the door is open, they will go into the house. Fortunately, our German shepherd is very amiable. Others may not be so accommodating? The most inconveniencing problem was with the cooker. The main oven had been dismantled so was unusable! One of the control knobs was missing. Only half the grill worked and the indicator that is supposed to be behind the control knob was absent so trying to set the correct heat was guess work. It was also prone to cutting off part way through food preparation. At this point, it wonât restart so your food is ruined. The hob top is also unreliable and just cuts out without warning. We contacted the owner about this on the Monday morning. He seemed concerned and promised to get his wife to call us. She didnât! So on Wednesday we tried to call her direct. She didnât answer so we left a comprehensive message on her voicemail. This solicited no response whatsoever. Plainly, if you have a problem at y Cartws, youâre on your own! Later, we discovered that there had been several complaints about the cooker going back over a year! There is no excuse for this. Electric cookers are not expensive or difficult to install. Clearly, the owners are more than happy to take your money but are much less willing to spend any! Without a properly working cooker, this house should not be on the market! Finally, everyone gets complaints from time to time. However, itâs the way that you handle them that counts. Ignoring them just serves to make customers even angrier!

The one good thing about this property is that the garden is far more enclosed than expected.
So the dogs could be watched but didn't have to be kept on a lead all the time. However that is where the good things stopped. The property is very damp, as a family member suffers from asthma we considered going home early but having travelled six hours to the cottage decided to stay for the majority of our booking. To minimize the problem we had to keep the windows fully open night and day whenever we were in, which unfortunately meant the VERY loud road noise woke us early every morning as the cottage is maybe thirty feet from the roadside. Also the advertised Sky TV is no longer connected, the satellite dish is hanging off the wall and you are limited to Free-sat - but because the wifi is so slow that it is practically non existent, there is no means to stream any TV shows. You have to watch live or not bother. I too ran a speed test which came back as 25 Kbps maximum ie 0.02Mbps which reminded me of the early 90's. We would have brought a DVD player with us had we known, as Amazon Prime or Netflix or any of the terrestrial catch up channels just wouldn't work. We eventually used our mobile phone as a, "hot spot" to be able to check emails but as we don't have unlimited data that was about it. As the sofa has no cushioning whatsoever and needs to be replaced you wouldn't want to sit too long anyway, it is like sitting on a church pew. We did contact Sykes and sent them a photograph of the black mould on the, (unnecessary) bathroom curtains but have never had the courtesy of even a reply. Lovely area and we are back in December but we won't stay at Panteg again.

Really enjoyed our break - 4 adults and two grandchildren.
Quite a few issues when we arrived, light bulb missing in the bedroom bedside lamp, no plug in ensuite bathtub, door didn't stay closed in bedroom, tumble dryer tripped out the electrics, downstairs shower temperature couldn't be adjusted. The owners happily came to inspect and some of the issues were rectified. We were also surprised we didn't receive a welcome pack as this is usual in all sykes cottages we have previously stayed in, however the owners did provide a dozen eggs at no charge. As we were leaving we had to retrieve a toy from behind a sofa, It was very dusty and didn't appear to have had a deep clean for a while. Mr and Mrs Evans were very friendly and were helpful with advice on where we should visit. The grandchildren loved their stay and thanks to Mr Evans for allowing our eldest grandchild to sit in his tractor and explore the farm.We had the pleasure of seeing one day old piglets, great base to stay for exploring the area around Cardigan and further afield.

Had an absolutely wonderful break at Llaethdy.
The location is just stunning and there were plenty of places nearby to visit. We had fantastic weather so the beach did get a little busy but still plenty of space. The cottage itself had everything we needed including plenty of cooking utensils and crockery. Everything was clean, fresh and comfortable. The bathroom door needs an adjustment of some sort, since it sticks and needs quite a push or pull to open it, so much so I think it might prove tricky for some people. The views from the decking were so beautiful and it was my favourite thing to do to sit and relax soak it up in the mornings and evenings, watching the dolphins playing in the bay. It was our first trip to Wales and we absolutely loved our time there. We were sad to leave.

The cottage is lovely but too close to a busy and sometimes noisy road, great garden though.
I nearly knocked myself out on the low kitchen doorway and it took me two bumps and two days to learn. My fault, not the doorway !! The guttering over the front door leaks and when it's raining you get an unwanted shower on entry and exit. The hot water is scalding hot and the temperature should be reduced. Other than that it's a lovely comfortable house, located in a great position for visiting the many beaches and coves up and down the coast. The welcome pack was a great idea and very well received, thank you for that. Also two folders on the dining room table were packed with useful information. All in all a well thought out holiday home. Would I visit again and would I recommend a visit - the answer is yes.
