What our customers say about their holidays

  • Barbara - Verified booking

The upside ; lovely hot water and lots of it, central heating very efficient, with glorious views all round, comfy beds with good bedding.

Downside ; the whole cottage needed a thorough clean. To begin with, the entrance needed a good brush to get rid of leaves and cobwebs which were all over the door frame and the tiles, this was a shame as a pleasant entrance would have made quite a difference. When we arrived we had to vacuum the lounge carpet as it obviously had not been cleaned from the last visitors. Then brushing down the walls to get rid of masses of cobwebs, these were also on the curtains, curtain poles and every nook and cranny. The cobwebs on the beams were amazing and we managed to remove quite a few. The hearth was then swept and the glass on the log burner cleaned so we could see the fire ! On looking behind the books on the window sills, we found thick cobwebs, dead flies and numerous spider corpses. The fabric covered settee was dirty and on lifting the seat cushions found food bits, dog hairs and sweet papers. We then cleaned the glass of the patio doors as they were covered in dog slobber, as was the glass on the back door. Now we get to the kitchen ! One revolting oven and baking pans that were disgusting and should have been thrown out months ago. The crockery was a mishmash of sorts and much of it was chipped. The glasses were pristine. The bathroom was fine, except for the shower hose which again was revolting.....black mould ? it was quite off putting. I have taken photographs of all the things mentioned and can send if you desire. It was such a shame about the lack of cleanliness, I know it is out in the country and they accept dogs , but that amount of cobwebs dead flies, spiders and dog hairs was not acceptable. It did not spoil our holiday , but it would have been absolutely A1 had these things been addressed in the first place. We were, to say the least , disappointed. Barbara Turner

We had a lovely stay at The Folly.

It was a last minute decision to book. The grounds are beautiful and you kindly have free run of them. The car parking is off road. You need to close the large wooden gate each time as the owners have a dog (who will come and visit you. Very sweet). You then walk the length of the garden to the Folly at the end. It is small but every bit of space is utilised. The spiral staircase could be an issue for some but you know this when you book. Plenty of hanging space in bedroom but getting suitcases upstairs is a challenge! The nearest neighbour is not the owner's house but another. Not much is open in the village of Woebley which is 30 mins walk on roads or 45 mins by fields. Internet unfortunately was non existent so Smart TV was pointless. May have been a blip. TV tiny. There are DVDs and a built in player. Good selection of books and games. Lovely welcome basket of home made bread and jam and fresh eggs plus more. We received a warm welcome from Jim and were offered early check-in. Very handy as we were already in the vicinity. The bed has a lightweight duvet. Towels were very stained. There is a bbq in the summer house which is also yours to use and provision of an area with sun loungers. 2 induction cooking rings were efficient and combi/microwave. Couldn't be bothered to read the lengthy instruction booklet for that! Fridge with small freezer compartment. We like to cook when away and as pubs were rarely open glad we had that option. We did have a drink at the Salutation and in Dilwyn village but no food on offer. You can book to eat out locally in the evening if places are open. Plenty of National Trust and gardens in the area. Would we stay again? Possibly. It was a novelty but we really like more space on holiday. Thank you for a lovely break.

After being Locked down this summer and unable to go to Spain this holiday was very important to us.

On arrival we were given a warm welcome by Mrs Mackie and the cottage was even better than we expected. The photographs don't do it justice. We appreciated the Sheep and the two Horses in the surrounding fields. It was a very peaceful spot . We were able to visit Hay on Wye , Abergavenny , Hereford which was a real delight and Llanthony Abbey with which we have connections. We were very fortunate with the weather and were able to sit outside the cottage at times and just enjoy the view. We were also able to do some walking . We were grateful for your website giving us the information about the Hunter's Moon Inn where we had a splendid Sunday Lunch sitting out in the Pub Garden, This week's break was just what we needed and will be recommending this cottage to our family . Many Thanks

Had a wonderful holiday at Hill Farm Cottage.

It has a large tiled hall with plenty of room for boots/ shoes and hooks for coats and dog leads which I don’t think was in the photos. Very comfortable and well equipped place. Dog friendly and had an enclosed garden and patio (but maybe teeny paws could squeeze out) with garden furniture and a BBQ -although we had taken our own and good weather allowed us to use it daily! Great to be able to do some washing and peg out on the line.Mr Mackie is a lovely gentleman and allowed us to let the dog run free in one of the gorgeous surrounding meadows. Great location for exploring with lots of dog friendly places around. We definitely recommend this place and would love to return .

The cottage was spacious, comfortable and very well equipped.

We were greeted on our arrival by the Cottage Manager, and later the owner also welcomed us and explained the workings of Hill Farm. It was wonderful to be able to watch the livestock in the adjacent fields and the daily activities of the farm. The location was so peaceful and quiet. It was a good base from which to explore the surrounding towns and villages and we look forward to visiting again in the future to explore the area further when the world has returned to normal. It was our first holiday since the start of Covid and it was great to be in different surroundings. We returned home relaxed, refreshed and ready to take on the world!
