What our customers say about their holidays
Jane - Verified booking
The bungalow is beautiful, so clean and comfortable.
I do have a few issues I would like to raise though. The fact the owners home is next door is conveniently missing from the information listed, until the full payment has been made, and when I say next door, you could throw a stone from the rental house window into their window, it's a shared drive . There is no direct access to the back garden from the bungalow, you have to go out the side door, down the side of the garage and into the garden that way, which made it very awkward for our dog , the front garden is not secure at all so although you can get to it from the front door, it is again unsuitable and there was no mention of this on the description on sykes page. One of the reasons we choose Northumberland was to take advantage of the dark sky and do some star gazing, however as the owners house was in such close proximity and like I mentioned, to get to the back garden you had to walk right past one of the bedrooms on owners house, across a noisy gravel path, we felt it was unfair to be doing this and it would have meant leaving our dog locked in the house while we went outside. Lastly the photographs on the website are done very cleverly to make the gardens look much bigger than they actually are, and I feel this is also misleading. The property is very nicely furnished and spotlessly clean ,but had all the information I have mentioned been available I would not have chosen it and I feel sykes need to be clearer in the description

I contacted the owners regarding everything whilst there.
It made no difference. Here is what I sent, Iâm happy to provide pictures. I wouldnât be sending people to this please until it has a deep clean. We found food under sofas too. Gutted at the money we spent and had to spend more spending time away from the lodge! Hi Just a message before checkout tomorrow. The hot tub needs a deep clean, we unfortunately haven't been able to get the use out of it as it's just filthy, there's scum line all around it. We've also spent the day in the park on Friday and there's been no high winds it's been 25 degrees of bliss. There's seat cushions missing also. Cushions outside also could do with a wash, quite stained and covered in bird poo (surely this would have been noticed with housekeeping today at change over). Itâs disgusting, weâve had to avoid sitting out there all weekend, a shame because the weather has been great! I'm just updating you guys on this so it's not a shock when we leave a review at the end of our stay tomorrow. We are also aware this is a pet friendly lodge but between check ins house keeping really should leave windows open as the smell of dog was very very strong as we walked in and throughout. It's a very well equipped lodge (apart from no iron which we went out and bought. We made the most of it by spending out days away from the lodge (defeats the purpose of why we booked it) but VERY unhappy with the facilities and the cleanliness for how much we paid. Janie

We had a wonderful stay in Northumberland, 23 Valley View was warm and clean, with a very comfortable bed and wonderful shower.
My husband enjoyed the golf course every day and the dog enjoyed the walks through the woods. All towns and beaches were within easy access and we spent a lot of time exploring. We did have a few issues, we were unable to watch live television (rugby world cup) however hard we tried, we managed to sign into netflix eventually, Iplayer was very bad . The welcome pack consisted of a couple of tea bags and some sachets of milk and sugar... no one expects a special welcome but when you were stuck in a huge jam on the A1 for two hours (we had a long journey anyway) and arrive late its nice to be able to relax with a few cups of tea before having to rush to the shops. A small amount of washing up liquid, cleaning cloth and small amount of liquid hand soap would have been nice as a starter. The information pack could do with some updating, it would be helpful if the Wi-Fi code was in it, we had to hunt around for it and maybe the instructions for appliances, we weren't sure how to use the dishwasher but found instructions in the end. Also some information on recycling that was available at the site. 23 Valley View was a great place for a holiday, the site was quiet and everyone was very friendly, will certainly be considering another stay.

Tomeg is a lovely terraced house perfectly located for all the amenities of Amble.
The house has three bedrooms with very comfortable beds and a lovely large bathroom with a bath and separate shower cubicle. The living room could possibly do with an extra chair for the fifth guest but we managed. The kitchen was ok but I would have liked a dishwasher and tumble dryer and perhaps some small drinking glasses as there were either wine glasses or tumblers. I did have to buy a roasting tray as theirs was tiny so Iâve left it for future guests. Parking at the rear of the property was a bit of a challenge but I found driving in forwards and reversing out of the narrow path worked for me.The neighbours all parked considerately so it wasnât a problem. Tomeg is on a main road but we didnât have any noise problems and thereâs a Co-op literally over the road. All in all we had a lovely stay in Amble which is a beautiful village that really comes alive on Sundays when the market is on. Warkworth Castle is worth a visit and is only just over a mile away from Tomeg so you can walk along the banks of the river Coquet which has amazing views. Alnwick, Bamburgh and Holy Island are all within an hours drive too. We had a great holiday and would definitely return.

We loved our stay in Tomeg.
The house is clean, ideally placed (The Wellwood Arms, Masons Arms, many takeaways and shops are only a short walk away) and had everything we needed for a 2 week holiday. The rooms are of a nice size and I'm not quite sure about the noise warning as this was quieter than another place we have stayed in Amble! The conservatory is a nice addition (and a good place to dry the washing / swimming stuff). The smart TV was a pleasant surprise so you can log into your streaming channels for those quiet evenings in. The only real negative about the house is actually a positive. The parking out back is (very) tight for an estate car (we have a Toyota Corolla Tourer Sport) and it does take a bit of work to get it in and out. However, this is a positive in some ways as street parking is also at a premium in Amble and I would rather have it this way than not having a guaranteed spot. Finally, all communication with the owners was answered promptly and professionally and I can not find fault in anything about the house an owners. Thank you Petra, Katherine (and Moira) for letting us stay in your lovely house.
