What our customers say about their holidays

  • Trudi - Verified booking

We've just returned from an absolutely wonderful 4 nights in the Declaration Suite over the Easter bank holiday.

The apartment was very well appointed and IMMACULATE, with a spotless kitchen and mould/watermark free bathrooms - even the skirting boards were dust free! The beds were very comfortable and the main bed was wider than a King. The second bedroom was arranged as two singles for our teenagers; both beds were comfortable and there was a fantastic dressing table, which our daughter was very pleased to discover! The owners supplied thick, soft blankets which were perfect for sofa snuggles, and protecting the lovely white bedding from paw prints. The music theme decor included a record player (which the kids had never seen before!) with Bluetooth technology, keeping everyone entertained. Everything Jules and Mike advertised is accurate - the owners really do care about guests having a fantastic experience. Gail managed our stay personally, sharing local information, offering to make table reservations, and checking in on us to see if we were happy or needed anything at all. She also recommended a local takeaway that we ordered from on JustEat - recommend the pizza! We didn't try any restaurants/pubs, but there were plenty to choose from locally, and in Prestatyn and Rhyl. First class service, in a first class establishment! Points to consider: 1) the high windows have roller blinds blinds, which are very easy to use, but allowed light in through all sides - easily reduced by putting spare pillows on the windowsills to block the gap! We would take blindfolds next time. 2) there are OODLES of sightseeing and walking opportunities nearby; definitely take walking boots/shoes as the local typography is very hilly. There's a flat, paved beach walk/cycle from Prestatyn to Rhyl, which took us an hour to walk both ways with the dog. Be aware that the path is open to dogs, but the sandy beaches aren't from May until after the summer. Check when the tide goes out if you want sandy toes in the a.m.! 3) there's a Tesco, Lidl and Aldi a short drive away (plus the usual shops found on retail parks). We would've packed less food and shopped locally after arriving. 4) if you're not used to sleeping in a flat/apartment, you might consider ear plugs, just in case the guests above you are up later than you are. The first guests above us made more noise, but the second guests were very quiet and didn't disturb us at all. Gail was thoughtful and vigilant in ensuring guests were aware and considerate of eachother.

Absolutely beautiful location, view stunning from lodge, couldn't ask for more.

The site was lovely with lots of walk ways with the dogs. The lodge was good at first glance, with all mod cons and very well equipped, which was great. Quite cramped in the bedrooms, with not really enough storage space for luggage. We were able to use the other bedroom to put our cases as there was nowhere to have them in the main bedroom. Be aware, the bunk bed in the other bedroom is really high! So for older kids it would be ok, very cramped again but all beds comfortable with good pillows and covers. Lots of towels which was really good for each bed. Lounge/ eating area, had an enormous television with lots of channels which leads you to believe that you might want to get comfy of an evening to watch a good film; but to no avail I'm afraid. The seating area which reminded me of the seating in a Doctors surgery waiting area, was the most uncomfortablest we have ever sat on! We were only able to seat on it for a short while before our backsides had gone completely numb! So consequently, we were unable to enjoy watching the TV at any length. Perhaps some reorganisation and new furniture would be a boon for this area? We found the shower really roomy and a real strong powerful shower, so was very good. It did fill up your the brim with suds every time we had a shower, and we were worried it might overflow, luckily not though! Needed a good plug clear out which obviously had not been done for a while. Kitchen was really well equipped which was great! Had a bit of trouble working out the electric hob, but managed in the end. On a serious note, be very aware of the step down into the kitchen. I had a situation where I tripped up while exiting the kitchen and flew across the lounge area! I really winded my self and was a bit bruised. Other then that, everything was fine, outside area lovely, nice area for the doggie, lovely hot tub and BBQ. Upstairs seating area with a great view but we couldn't use it as our dogs could not use the stairs safely (quite steep).

On arrival, out of respect, I took my shoes off but unfortunately the carpet in the bedroom was soaking wet.

When discussed with staff, they said it had been deep cleaned prior to us arriving. The cabin was clean and well presented but unfortunately with the carpet being so wet, there was a strong damp smell throughout. The shower was cold. This was mentioned to the reception staff, no one came to sort it. Due to having PTSD, I have a service dog. I explained this to staff but unfortunately this wasn’t passed down and I was repeatedly questioned by multiple staff (some lovely, some not so kind) about this even though she had her labelled harness on. Unfortunately, 1 member of the bar staff was extremely rude- when I went to the bar to get a drink she was standing with her work colleague, looked me up and down and said to her work colleague ‘You can sort that one’. There was a dog roaming around outside the cabins, pooing everywhere which the owner didn’t clean up even though there are lots of dog bins. I had to point this out to staff. I refuse to pick up other people’s dogs poo. On leaving, there were two males sat in their car on the carpark right outside reception smoking very strong cannabis. Marian staff were seen walking past the car but nothing was mentioned. The car parking spaces were small and the disabled parking spaces were small too, there was only 4 and were being used by people in large trucks with no blue badges displayed. As a disabled badge owner, this is extremely frustrating!! I would like to say on a positive note- Jason the handyman was an absolute godsend and I wished I got to thank him before we left.

The lodge was so nice, and views were just breathtaking!

We loved everything about our little break. We got the hang of the fire pit easily! Just make sure you follow the instructions in the book and you won’t go wrong. We went to a Texaco petrol station nearby and they had bags of logs and kindling for £4.50 which was useful to know! The property was gated so our dog could have the run of outside and didn’t get out. Notes for consideration if you’re staying: - I would say make sure you bring an additional tea towel and bin bags if you’re staying for more than 2 nights. We stayed for 4 nights and got 1 tea towel and 1 bin bag. Maybe if you messaged staff you might get more but we didn’t bother and bought our own to make do! - The couch isn’t comfortable so again, if you’re intending on spending time in the lodge I’d suggest taking your own pillows or beanbags to make it a bit comfortable. - We stayed 4 nights and did have enough bath towels, however we used them off the spare bed too. So just make sure if you’re going as a family and for more than 2 nights, maybe consider taking additional towel each - The drive up to the lodge was quite narrow and not really for the weak if you aren’t a confident driver! I’d just say bear that in mind before booking - we were fine but I know some might not be. They aren’t negative points as such, just things we would consider next time. However would go back in a heart beat. Really nice lodge and gave us the break we were looking for!

    Loved the cottage in general.

nice and clean. good location, nicely welcomed. everything you need. good internet etc But would not stay again in winter. We had no manual control of the heating. Even though heating was remotely set to 27 degrees ( it never reached 27 degrees - I expect its because its a stone cottage ) , the radiators would go on and off and at times it was just too cold and nothing we could do about it except use blankets in the living room. I understand you don't want heating on full blast - for guest comfort and cost. But in middle of winter every radiator should at least be warm all the time - at times they were stone cold. Try and stay there all day and you will see for your self that it is too cold at times :-) hope to stay again in the summer but will not stay again for our annual Christmas visit to north wales. suggest having couple of electric heaters that guests can use at their own discretion if they want it warmer in winter All the best Paul, Lee and Noah X
