What our customers say about their holidays

  • Louisa - Verified booking

We have recently been on holiday to Tattershall Lakes, a resort we always enjoy going back to as it offers everything we want from a short family break away.

However the holiday accommodation was a complete let down and most definitely not what was advertised and described as. The cleanliness was a disgrace and actually quite disgusting upon further inspection. We had a problem with the shower drainage in the main bathroom and on one morning had a flood. When we checked the shower trap, to our horror found thick amounts of hair and sludge blocking the pipe. We had no choice but to clean this ourselves and as you can imagine I was not impressed!! That was issue 1, next was the stains on the bed sheets and the foisty smell!! Why on earth wasn’t this sort of thing checked and replaced before the next set of guests arrived??! How hard is it to offer guests freshly washed sheets that smell and look clean?! Issue 3. Filth and dirt in and around the radiators. Looks as though this has built up over months and hasn’t been checked, cleaned and maintained Issue 4. The windows were filthy and obviously hadn’t been cleaned for some time! Issue 5. The BBQ was full of ash and the grill was caked in grease and previously burnt on food! Unfortunately I don’t have pictures of this as i was starting to lose the will to live. It states in the description that if the BBQ is used then it must be cleaned so it’s ready for the next guests. Clearly not done or even checked before we arrived??! Issue 6. The hot tub was dirty and there was debris in the bottom when I lifted the lid? Clearly not drained and cleaned before we arrived. The overall cleanliness around the hot tub was disgusting. The wooden gazebo over the hot tub was plastered with cobwebs and dirt, occasionally some of this would drop into the hot tub when we were using it!! Issue 7. Cobwebs throughout the lodge! Everywhere you turned there would be a cobweb hanging in the corner of the room and above a door way. This was noticeable on first arrival and we were told by the owner that the cleaners had been in just before we arrived? Issue 8. Grime and dirt in the en-suite bedroom. Issue 9. Just general un tidy, un kept property in the garden area which was an eyesore!! Issue 10. Leaking shower seal in en-suite shower. The seal along the bottom of the shower partition was leaking and as a result water would run down onto the bathroom floor. This issue was reported on the Sykes review back in December 2022 but has not been fixed!

Our stay at Teal Lodge was far from the relaxing retreat we had hoped for.

The lodge was generally grubby and clearly in need of maintenance. Here are some key issues we faced during our stay: Cleanliness: The lodge was not clean. We found coffee granules in the cupboards, the window sills were grubby, dining table sticky and the vent above the shower clearly hadn’t been cleaned in months. Additionally, there was no mop or brush available to keep the floor clean. Kitchen Appliances: Both freezers were frozen solid, and one was so jammed that we couldn't even close the door properly. Furthermore, there was a lack of storage, forcing us to use the worktops to store food, which made it inconvenient and cluttered. Outdoor Furniture: There were no cushions provided for the outdoor furniture, making it uncomfortable to sit outside and enjoy the surroundings. Structural Issues: The bathroom window wouldn't lock, compromising our privacy and security. The latch for the second bedroom window was missing, preventing us from leaving it open without it being fully open, which was inconvenient and potentially unsafe. No shower in the ensuite despite it being in the property description and photo's We noticed a hole in the roof outside, which we believe is where an animal got in. We heard it running above the ceiling every night, which was disturbing. Despite these shortcomings, there were a few positives. The hot tub was great, and the lodge is situated in a quiet, secluded part of the park, which when the jet skis finish, was very tranquil with great sunsets. Overall, while the hot tub and location were highlights, the lack of cleanliness, maintenance issues, and structural problems made our stay disappointing.

Positives: This is a lovely lodge, very well situated beside the jet ski lake.

It has a good level of privacy and the views from the decking and hot tub are beautiful. It is well equipped with most kitchen items anyone would need for a short break. The kitchen, bathroom and living area facilities were mostly spotlessly clean. Arrival was perfect with the key in the key safe and thanks to clear instructions via email we could get straight inside. We enjoyed the hot tub on the second night. Improvements: towels - we were only provided with four or five towels which for eight guests obviously wasn’t enough. Luckily we’d taken beach towels for the lake so had to use these. Hot tub: despite us not checking in until 6:30pm the hot tub was cold. It was still too cold to use by 10pm and our teenagers were very disappointed the tub couldn’t be used on the first night. I appreciate the water is changed before new guests arrive but this meant we could only use it for one night of our two night stay. Considering the price we paid per night this was disappointing. (I tend to fill up my hot tub with a mix of warm and cold water so it doesn’t take as long to heat). The lid could do with renewing too. Cleanliness: like I’ve said previously the lodge is mostly spotlessly clean. However it needs a good deep clean in the nooks and crannies to remove the Cobwebs. Also the dishwasher wasn’t great at cleaning the dishes so quite a few of the glasses in the cupboard needed washing by hand so we could use them. Overall we had a great stay celebrating two big birthdays

There were several negative reviews however like the last reviewer we went along any way as had paid for a weeks break.

Sadly the earlier complaints had not been addressed. There were cobwebs in the corners of the inside, the towels and tea towel did not smell nice at all. The bedding was old and did not smell clean at all. We struggled with the shower as difficult to control the temperature and the water pressure was poor, not enough for 2 people. The deck area had not seen any maintenance for who knows how long, it needs a good jet wash and a fresh coat of paint. There is no where to hang your clothes, there were only 2 pint beer glasses and one wine glass, we had to buy some tumblers. The fridge is in a shed at back of hut. With a bit of cash spent on a good clean, new bedding, curtains that are actual curtains, a jet wash, a fresh deck paint it could be lovely. We left after 2 nights as I couldn’t stay in a bed that felt so unclean. Sykes were very efficient at dealing with our concerns and speaking to owners but as we did not speak with owners directly to give them an opportunity to resolve we cannot have any refund. Nothing could have been resolved whilst we were in the property so there felt little point. I do hope therefore that they spend the 438 pounds we lost on improving the areas we and others have highlighted and as our complaint was ‘resolved’ by Sykes I would expect never to see another bad review here again. On a positive note the site for campers was quiet, the area lovely, peaceful and scenic.

    Pictures are deceiving.

On arrival owners seemed friendly enough and gave us directions as is incorrect on Sykes website and on What3words. Fridge is located outdoors and was mouldy and not working. We asked the owners to look into fixing this but it never really seemed cold enough to be working. The bedding and towels smelled of damp and didn’t seem clean from the cold. The bedding was a mismatch of leftover bedding with several old quilts and nothing which was very inviting. There was mould in the shower which we had to clean on arrival and there were many cobwebs and was overall very dirty. Hot water comes out in a trickle and after one shower you have to wait overnight for there to be enough hot water again. We had food on the kitchen counter such as a cereal box and biscuits which were unopened which became damp with how cold the property was. There was an electric blanket and an electric heater but our clothes became wet in our suitcase located under the bed due to the damp. After two nights we left early as with the damp and mould and the fridge not working properly we didn’t think it was hygienic to stay. Really really disappointed in this property and don’t think it’s up to standard. Should be advertised as more of a camping facility rather than a holiday let. When we came home we found we were bitten by either fleas or bed bugs from staying at the property and have submitted a complaint to Sykes.
