What our customers say about their holidays

  • Catherine - Verified booking

This is the worse place that I've ever stayed.

I had such an awful, uncomfortable time and I came away from the property ill. The electric storage heaters don't give off enough heat. I guess they expect you to use the gas heater (not advertised), which we were forced to do, however, I have asthma so after just 2 uses of the fire, I had the start of an irritation on my chest that developed into a chest infection. Also, the fire is temperamental. It's not fun trying to light a faulty gas fire. There are no instructions in the property. We had to google to find out how to use the grill on the oven. There were no games, just jigsaw puzzles. The DVD's are just thrillers...? I notice that in May 2023 they had feedback about a faulty shower yet they have clearly done nothing about it as the shower is either boiling hot or freezing cold. The bed was so uncomfortable that I really didn't sleep. My husband slept a little but he found the bed very small. The place was very dirty. I find it a bit cheeky that they request £20 per dog when they don't clean anything. There were so many cobwebs, surfaces were dusty, stains on the sofa, the knobs on the cooker were dirty, there was a lot of dirt behind the sofa when we pulled it out, the bin was dirty and there was a stain on the mattress protector!! I was not made aware before travel of opening hours of the hosting house so we had no access to cooked breakfast, cream tea etc. Combined with the cold, chest irritation and lack of sleep; I became so ill by the third day that I cried my eyes out and wanted to go home. We had to stay because it was Christmas and because we had paid so much money. I tried to have a bath but being a larger lady, I couldn't because they have a bath that becomes narrow for some reason!! They couldn't just have a standard bath for us fatties! We also felt extremely uncomfortable to say anything to the owners with it being the time of year. To top it off, they were closed way after opening on the day we were leaving when we were trying to get hold of them to pay the outstanding money owed.

The owner was very welcoming and helpful , it gave an air of assurance in these stressful "getting back to normal" times.

The cottage is cosy and comfortable in a beautiful location, with lovely views over a valley. We spent happy times over a coffee watching the amazing bird life (and saw birds of prey high up over the hills). The weather wasn't good to us during our stay but the accommodation was a welcoming place to come back to. We agree with a previous reviewer's comments , that if you are used to a firmer mattress , you notice a difference, but that is a minor point. Overall a lovely , welcoming place to retreat to for a break and an excellent base for visiting and exploring the surrounding area.

We arrived at the cider loft & liked the look & location of it , but on closer inspection the general cleanliness & maintaince of the property were lacking ( the microwave & oven both had a lot of dried food stuck inside ) ( kettle was brown) (cutlery drawer had crumbs inside it ) (bathroom sink plug chain broken ) (needs slip mat for bath for when showering )(heaters wouldn’t work apart from one in bedroom , admittedly there was a portable gas fire ) (bottom oven did not work ) we did run out of gas ( in this amazing summer weather) but Craig did replace the following morning

We booked just 2 days before arrival so had no real chance to investigate the area.

Calcott annexe is in a brilliant location accessing beautiful quaint places to visit with great pub food just 8 mins and up to half an hour drive away. Our favorite had to be symonds yat 8min drive or 35min walk. Calcott annexe itself was really homely, very clean and great views and for 2 people to escape perfect. Connie is lovely and whilst being next door we had total privacy, but was always on hand and quick to respond to questions. We had everything we needed for our break. Thank you Connie for a lovely stay and we will be back.

We have stayed in a number of dog friendly cottages in the last 4 years and this is by far one of the best for many reasons. A wonderful base for so many walks directly from the cottage, we didn’t have to get in the car once. The cottage itself is so cosy, super clean and provides absolutely everything you need. A short walk up the castle drive to the tea room for coffee and cake or into the local village to the community shop, cafe and pub, where everyone is very friendly. We will definitely be booking again. Thank you
