  The relatively remote ‘Little Irish’ sits on the beautiful, exposed and rugged Bodmin Moor just outside St Breward. The property offers extensive and scenic moorland views direct from the lounge! Gerry and Dawn have done an outstanding job in converting the old barn into a comfy, welcoming, well equipped holiday rental. If you want a peaceful and secluded break, this is the place..and we loved it! Little Irish has an open plan lounge/diner and kitchen with everything you will need. Had we been there in summertime and not February we would certainly have utilised the enclosed garden adjacent to the barn for BBQ’s in this idyllic setting. The bedroom has a particularly comfy bed, TV and a well appointed en suite with a good shower. Paddy, the dog welcomed our mad hound like a long lost friend and they were soon to be found playing chase in Gerry and Dawn’s field with the hens looking on in admiration. Our excellent hosts furnished us with all the necessary information we required-like the best eateries (and there are plenty) and walking options -without ever being intrusive. The scones, jam and clotted cream as well as tasty free range eggs they provided were excellent. Little Irish is ideally placed for walking near the coast, moors, woods or cycling the Camel Trail. Wenford Bridge (where the trail starts at its southern end) is a short drive away. We were able to easily get to our favourite North Coast haunts of Wadebridge, Polzeath, Daymer Bay, Rock and Trebarwith Strand. We were also pleased to be able to head south through Bodmin to the South Cornwall Coast too. We have stayed in a good number of properties over the years in North Cornwall and this undoubtedly was one of our favourites.

  The Smithy is in a lovely location with Bodmin Moor on the doorstep, so no need to get the car out, if you don't want too.

  The cottage was very comfortable, clean and warm with a log burner, if you want to use the fire, alternatively the central heating was more than adequate for the inclement weather we had on a couple of days, in the midst of winter. With having two active and inquisitive dogs, it was a relief to have a robust ,fenced in garden that was completely safe. There are some stunning views and sunsets from the conservatory. The amenities in the property were excellent, possibly one of the best holiday lettings we have stayed at. Blisland Village is about a mile away with a community shop and post office that sells good produce plus has a cafe. The church is a must to see and finally the Blisland Inn, does really good food and very friendly. Lastly, the owners of the Smithy live adjacent to the property and are very helpful and friendly. If you want peace, tranquility and a fab holiday stay, would highly recommend the Smithy

  We had a lovely stay, the cottage was ideal for what we wanted from our week away. The furnishings and decor was excellent, big comfy bed, lovely warm rain shower and a great sofa for relaxing in the evening. Everything was thought of from blankets to snuggle with to interesting books to read and jigsaws and games to keep us entertained (the Padstow one had us beat, we didn't complete it in the week hehehehe!) The location is different from what we've tried before in Cornwall but this was great as we found things and places we hadn't yet discovered. Having a log burner was a little bit of luxury for staying when the weather was not that reliable. An enclosed garden was great for the dog, she loved getting comfy and warm after our long walks, the property was dog friendly. The owners of the property were friendly and very kind, kept us supplied with logs, fresh eggs and a fabulous welcome cream tea.

  Caroline called around on the Saturday to check everything was OK with us.

  There was everything in the cottage that we needed for our holiday. It was very clean and tidy and well kept. When we arrived on the Friday, there was milk, scones, jam and cream which was thoroughly enjoyed. It is nice to have fresh flowers in the cottage as well. The Smithy was ideal for us with bringing our golden retriever. It had a small enclosed garden and a conservatory. It was lovely having the dining table in the conservatory. We felt we were in the garden watching the butterflies on the buddhlia and swallows flying around and perching on the cables. There was a nice walk up the lane and onto the Moor by the Jubilee Stone. There were lovely views of the surrounding countryside from the Moor. We had a lovely holiday and visited The Eden Project and Wheal Coates at St. Agnes. Stunning scenery.   No there was a couple of issues when we first arrived but the owner and his colleague sorted these was were very attentive to our needs. The setting is delightful, it is so peaceful and the lack of ambient light allowed for spectacular star shows at night, the wildlife which we saw was lovely, the hot tub and the isolation was just want we needed as we both have stressful jobs. A great place with a local pub which was a little expensive but to be honest the food w as great. The St Kew farm shop looks like it is part of the golf club but we had the best cream tea and like a lot of places now it is dog friendly. Thanks for a great holiday and welcome.
