What our customers say about their holidays

Party of six, four adults and two children.
The weather, the scenery and fabulous beaches were the shining stars during our one week stay and the Haven staff kept the outdoor areas well tended. The property was an adequate size for our party of six. It is obvious from the photo's that it isn't spacious, so no complaints there. Larger than a caravan, smaller than most houses. The interior of the property was very clean. Kitchen utensils, crockery, cutlery, glassware aplenty - although a decent quality sharp knife - for those who love to cook - would by a great addition! Slicing an onion (sliding off an onion) was a long winded, tearful endeavour! The double bed was very comfortable, as were two of the four singles (the remaining two were, in our opinion, overly firm but they were being used by adults.) The sofas were comfortable but old and quite badly stained - though they did have throws to hide the worst. The addition of a table lamp in the lounge would be nice. The powerful ceiling lights were not conducive to an evening of relaxation. We borrowed one from a bedroom. Bathroom OK; Mira shower in a small cubicle but we weren't swinging any cats! Light sleepers should take earplugs. It's a bit creaky in there, particularly for those in the double bedroom below + the doors were all squeaky but I oiled the hinges - no charge :-) Decking area was a bit disappointing. The cushions for the outdoor furniture that were said to be stored behind the sofa in the lounge weren't there. We had to sweep masses of cobwebs for the railings. We noticed that the decking areas of identical properties nearby were cleaner and had pots of plants (albeit some were plastic) that made for a much more welcoming and pleasant exterior. Little touches can make a huge difference. We felt that the property needed a bit of TLC (a bit tired) but no major complaints. The niggles could easily be addressed without huge expenditure. It's also worth mentioning that we struggled to receive a reply from a pre holiday query we had. We were informed by Sykes that the owner had chosen the option of being uncontactable (by guests.) Our query was fielded by Sykes who, after two calls from us, contacted the owner who's answer was relayed back to us via Sykes. A rather long winded and frustrating process. Finally, as holiday property owners ourselves, we feel that our review is thorough, constructive, balanced and fair. Owners take note - it would be relatively cheap and easy to add those little touches and upgrade your property to 5 star status. On that basis, I would have no hesitation in recommending it to strangers and friend alike. Thank you.

We have been to this property before so we obviously like it which is why we returned.
The location is amazing and the chalet itself is cosy and has a certain charm. However, there were 3 main issues on our arrival: - Cleanliness. It was not good. Cobwebs and dead insects everywhere, dirty toilet. We had to clean the whole place from top to bottom. I have no doubt that somebody had charged the owners to clean the property but frankly they are ripping you off. It was not clean at all and you don't go on holiday to clean. - Shower wouldn't work. A plumber was sent by Menai Cottages and the issue was water pressure. It was fixed fairly immediately. As we didn't arrive until quite late on our first day, however, it was essentially day 3 before it was sorted. - WiFi broken. The owner drove all the way from Kent to fix this, which seemed above and beyond. Thank you, Andy. Again, it was essentially day 3 of a 7 night stay when it was sorted. Finally, there is a hole/tear in the fascia/soffit to the rear of the chalet and something is nesting in there. The rustling at night did keep me awake at times. All in all... the location is amazing (I can't overstate this enough, it's stunningly beautiful), the owners are extremely helpful and the use of their Friends and Family pass absolutely invaluable. The children loved the activities on this quite brilliant site. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen and living room well enough equipped. However, the property just feels as though it needs a little more TLC and, whilst we had a great time together as a family, we were a little disappointed overall with the property itself on this occasion.

This cottage has the potential to be exceptional.
It's very dark and cosy, which for December was great. It's tucked away without a drive, but we found the on road parking to be absolutely fine. We really enjoyed reading about the property's history, which was included as part of the welcome information. We appreciated the firewood for the first fire, and the sparkling wine in the fridge was a nice touch. There is a well stocked Spar down the road, and it is very close to some stunning beach walks. Communication with the owner was great when we couldn't find the immersion switch for the hot water - friendly and very helpful. If you are considering this cottage, though, know that you will need to bring *everything* with you. There was one toilet roll, one tea towel, one bin liner for the small kitchen bin, no hand soap, no hair dryer (not great to discover that right before a brisk beach walk in December!), no heater in either of the bedrooms. The single tea towel quickly became smelly because there is no central heating so therefore no radiator to dry it on. Many holiday lets we have stayed in have everything you need to make it a home from home - this isn't one of those properties, so just bear that in mind. Finally, for dog owners: the garden is not connected to the cottage. It is totally separate, so letting your dog out for a wee before bed or in the middle of the night isn't an option - you'll need to put their lead on and take them out. Overall a very cosy cottage full of character and history, it just needs a bit more attention to detail.

Lovely cottage.
Had a great week. Owner happened to be there on arrival and showed us around. Twin bedroom very small and really only suitable for kids-no storage in twin room either but clothes rack outside. My 23 yr old son struggled in the room. Double room was lovely with plenty of room and storage. Heating easy to use and kept cottage nice and warm. Bathroom small andâ¦.itâs only personalâ¦but I hate baths with tap in the centre and not at the end. Difficult to get in and out of and as bath was narrow to suit the room it was a bit of a pain. Old fashioned latches on internal doors look lovely and suit the old cottage style but are very noisy in the middle of the night if you need a pee. So this Meant Iâd one of us got up for a wee-we all didâ¦as the dog thought we were being burgled hahahah. Views around were fab. But area is very windy being right on the end of the peninsula. Would recommended a new 4 slice toaster so everyone can breakfast together and a supply of egg cups and a toast rack- a sweeping brush would also come in handy. Overall a lovely cottage and the wood burner would be fab in the colder months of the year. The only downside was inability to leave dog off lead for a good run. Sheep and horses roam the area right outside the cottage so lead walks only until to find your way down into âHells Mouthâ. Long pebbled wind swept beach there. But quite a challenge getting down there with a springer spaniel pulling you all the way on the end of a lead. Thanks for a lovely week.

Sunstone is a pretty, characterful cottage located on a remote National Trust headland, ideal for dog walking or just enjoying the wild moorland overlooking Hells Mouth.
The cottage is recently renovated, and an ideal retreat for two adults, plus two children in the very small second bedroom. Its compact, so missing space for washing machine or drier, extra fridge freezer is in the garden shed, its well heated and has a lovely log burner. Of important note is the new 3 bed chalet 'Beach Shack' located just yards away behind Sunstone, overlooking its west garden and terrace. you have to park on the shared driveway of the chalet and if its occupied, its a major loss of privacy as they overlook you from their raised terrace and you have to walk through their space to get to your car. possible issues if you return late evening and they're in bed! Fortunately for us, the chalet wasn't occupied during our stay, if it had been, wed have felt a bit uncomfortable always imposing on their space to come and go. Also to be noted is the final road up to the dirt track is strictly a single lane, be prepared to reverse a long way if meeting any vehicles! Also the final track to Sunstone, it has many pot holes, we were glad to be in a 4 x4 car! To summarise, a pretty welcoming cottage, but spoilt its loss of privacy of the chalet, and access issues, but ideal for two families who want to holiday together if they rent both properties.
