Dog Friendly Cottages In Bangor

Despite being the smallest city in Wales, Bangor still packs a punch when it comes to cottage holiday destination. With views across the Menai Strait and within easy reach of Snowdonia, this pretty city is brimming with Welsh charm.

In Bangor, visitors will find all the conveniences of a city but with the benefit of less than half away from a stunning National Park. There will be no shortage of places to eat and drink after a long day exploring the natural beauty of Snowdonia. By the water-front take in the views over to Anglesey and enjoy a stroll down the charming Grade II listed pier. It is especially beautiful in the evening as the sun sets. For those looking for a dose of culture or history, be sure to visit the Penrhyn Castle and Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Clare - Verified booking

The house is in a fantastic location and is very spacious with loads of light, which is lovely.

The only thing that lets it down, as some other visitors have also commented on, is the quality of the decor. There are paint splashes on the floors/carpets in pretty much every room, the curtains are very thin and don’t fit the windows properly in some rooms, there are gaps in carpet that have been patched with completely different pieces of carpet or mats in the master bedroom, holes in the wall panels in the bathroom and badly hung cabinet doors in the kitchen which prevents some doors from fully closing. There was also a really fusty smell in the living room - I think it came from the blankets and cushions. These are all fairly minor things, but combined, they let the property down as they make it feel a bit cheaply done. When you pay almost £1000 for one week, this is disappointing. Also, there were absolutely no toiletries provided - no hand soap in the bathroom, no washing up liquid in for kitchen and no laundry detergent in the utility room - and no hand towel in the bathroom either. Again minor inconveniences but providing these for visitors would make a huge difference to first impressions and comfort of the stay. Having said all this, the property and garden are large, the facilities were all in good working order, the Wi-Fi was fast and the living area is very comfortable, so the major points are all fine. If the feedback from ourselves and other visitors was taken on board and addressed by the owners and cleaners, then this would make a huge difference and go some way to justifying the price that is being charged.

Very spacious, well equipped but corners cut which was a shame.

There is a splendid cooker, the pans were not usable. Where the non-stick coating had been scraped off they had all rusted. So The only way to cook was with frying pans, baking sheets, or to use the microwave oven. New pans don't cost much! Spotless kitchen. The only bed we used was in need of renewal because it was so old. We loved the privacy and the location, the directions were essential and no parking problems because of an ample private drive. An attempt had been made to put down artificial grass but it was a disaster. I'm sure weed -resistant membrane and wood chippings would look better. On the plus, it was really warm and well-ventilated. The amount of light was wonderful - big windows in every room. The welcome pack was also very kind. Nice front garden (there was a pretty border and mixed shrubs) but a bodged, unfinished structure (seating area?) and collection of overflowing bins didn't give the best first impressions. On the morning of our stay we received a call to say a wardrobe door had come off and it was at the top of the list to be replaced, this reflected how there was care about the interior and the comfort it offered visitors. Strange details let it down (the missing carpet at the side of the bed, two carpet squares being laid down to fill the gap). We had a good stay, we really did but were niggled by the details mentioned.

Having read some of the reviews I was not sure whether or not to book this property but as it was a late booking took a chance and booked dates which were available in September.

The bungalow is very spacious and I really couldn't see why so many negative reviews has been received. There is parking for more than one car, the garden is secure (a must for my dog) and the bungalow is well equipped and had everything we needed. Yes there are a few paint spots on the floor but that did not detract from our holiday. The beach is about half a mile away and dogs are allowed on some parts of it, the parking is free and it was mostly deserted. There is a coffee shop and swings next to the beach. The beds were clean and comfortable and the bedrooms were spacious. The kitchen and bathroom are relatively new and both served their function. There was plenty of hot water and we had no problems with the shower. There are two shops very close to the property so no need to drive to a supermarket. There is also a chip shop and Chinese takeaway just down the road. My only criticism would be that there were no pillow protectors on the beds and there seemed to be a problem with which bin to put out meaning they hadn't been emptied. There are plenty of places to visit nearby so we didn't have to travel far. Compared with other holiday properties it was also very good value as it is a lot cheaper. We enjoyed our stay and would certainly stay there again

The 'Hideaway' is a deligtful basemant flat in a perfect spot for accessing Benllech beach.

We loved the attention to detail wrt making the accommodation a home from home; lots of 'knick knacks' and pictures etc. The quality of the furnishings is very good and the large store cupboard housing the fridge freezer is a huge bonus. The patio area is very pleasant and really opens up the flat, which can feel a bit enclosed due to it being in the basement (but that's just me perhaps). We didn't see much of the owners as they were away for most of our stay, but they were lovely to meet and had made sure that everything was spot on for our holiday. My only suggestion is that an extra chair in the seating area would have made for perfect comfort.....the two seater settee is fine, but my husband likes to spread out and so we felt a bit cramped with no other comfortable chair......there is plenty of room for a small tub chair or one like the ones on the patio. However, this is just a personal preference, and would not stop us from booking this lovely 'find ' again. Lots to do in the area and the beach is super; full of families and friendly dog walkers. There are pubs, shops and restaurants all within walking distance so what's not to like?

    `The Hideaway` at Benllech is a gorgeous & beautifully-arranged apartment for two.

The well-equipped and comfortable accommodation is complemented by a neat little sun terrace, providing a super additional space in which to relax, read that book you`ve been wanting to finish, write postcards to family and friends to tell them how much you are enjoying being there etc; whilst also providing a perfect and partially-covered space in which to eat and drink outdoors. In the write up, `The Hideway` is said to be one minute from the sea, which would obviously vary from person to person. I can only say that (for me) it took a mere 210 ordinary footsteps to reach the sea front. The beach, which is backed by Limestone cliffs and intriguing rock formations, has gently sloping golden sand and plenty of rock pools to explore. The Wales Coast Path is even fewer steps from the apartment and there are plenty of good local facilities. What`s not to like?
