What our customers say about their holidays

This is a superb property.
Access is simple as long as you don't mind 2 flights of stairs. The bedrooms are very spacious, light and comfortable. The bathrooms are modern and the shower in the en suite is really nice (maybe swap the bath for a similar shower in the main bathroom?). As it's a top floor apartment it does get warm inside but there are plenty of windows to open and let the ocean breeze in. The views are stunning across Carbis Bay and St Ives with a really good sunset view too. The kitchen/living area was actually bigger than we expected so was a really good space with all the facilities you'd like to see. The Bluetooth speaker was easy to use and of good quality and the TV was large with access to many services such as Netflix etc. There are some faults with the window handles in the right hand bedroom but this didn't have an impact on our stay and was logged by Sykes straight away. We also had a problem with the main bathroom sink but again Skyes fixed it the same day with no impact on our stay. We stayed in June and there were seagulls nesting on the roof which were noisy in the morning but we actually quite liked checking on them each day, something to note though if you're a late sleeper. The only change I'd make is replacing the sofa in the living area. It's a great size but maybe has lost some of its comfort; also the modular set up means gaps can appear between the seats making it uncomfortable to sit on. This really is a minor point though but would make the apartment faultless in my view.

We really wanted to like this place.
Unfortunately the place was filthy when we arrived - a deep clean was desperately needed with the drawers filled with crumbs and dirt, same for the tables and countertops covered. Half eaten food was left in the freezer. Most of the utensils were sticky to the touch or food coated, as were the place mats, which we left unused in the cupboard. It would have been nice to have a single dishwasher tablet or two provided, as capsules were for the washing machine. The sofa is extremely uncomfortable and old, as other reviews have said. It smells like vomit for some reason that Iâd prefer not to think too hard about. It needs to be replaced. Much of the furniture is worn and needs repainting. The vibe of the place is a run-down dirty attempt at Versailles in a dodgy flat. Maintenance of the whole building is abysmal, given that the (only!) door to the whole building broke, trapping us inside and with any other residents. The number to call in the lobby didnât answer. We only managed to escape the building after Googling the Sykes number online to get in contact with someone. If there had been a fire, nobody would have been able to get out. That said, bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and the location is walking distance to St Ives. If you only stay there to sleep, itâs great.

This character property felt like a home, its decor and facilities making it a comfortable and cosy stay.
The location made it perfect for us with three beaches close by. The convenience of shops in this quaint town with all the other amenities open (many during bank holiday time) made it unnecessary to use our car which we left 200 metres away (in the Long Stay Island car park overlooking beaches, for around £10 pw). The only initial issue was the plumbing in the bath/shower area which needed unblocking.. easy enough (but the backing up of waste water needs addressing in future). Otherwise all rooms were clean and the furniture very comfortable for the three of us to either be together or find private space over the week. (Addressing a previous review: the bedding is fine now, with new towels, linen and pillows. The mattresses were firm and clean, if not new). The real wood flooring throughout made it attractive and easy to vacuum for the inevitable sand deposits. There were unique St Ives carols sung at midnight Xmas Eve outside the cottage, by local singers in Cornish, one told us heâd been doing this for fifty years. Beat that. It was magical. Our dogs loved it and were easily accommodated with all the nearby walks. The neighbours were very friendly too, gathering outside for chats and drinks/snacks. This was a great stay to add to our memories of family Christmas.

Property was not cleaned on arrival, only some beds were made.
(Cleaners reurned later in the evening after our complaint which meant we were unable to unpack until Sunday) 1 party member had to share a bed for 2 nights until new bedding was sent via amazon, although we were told it would arrive via cleaners the next day. Wifi did not work for 4 days. Boiler presure was 0 on arrival which meant no hot water or heating. We were asked to sort this ourselves by the owner. Leak from bath into lounge on 1st day maintenace attended but we had to be in and were called back from a day out to do this. Windows had not been cleaned in a long time. I cleaned the kitchen one myself. Owner said windows cleaners would attend but did not. Garden area had litter and debris, i also cleaned this myself. Property needs a lot of TLC, games room smells damp and musty. Games table broken. No dart board as in picture. Lots of bulbs out in property not rectified during stay. Not enough cutlery, only 4 knives in the cutlery drawer. 1 wine glass and 3 champ flutes. Noisy building work on neighbouring properties. Property is well located and could be an amazing character cottage with a bit of care taken.

The flat was spotless and had lovely views.
There were a few niggles that were irritating. In the main bedroom the bedside tables were not useable. There were wicker and around 4ft high and my elderly mother couldnât even rest a cup on tea on it. The 2nd bedroom had an ensuite with a clear door. It looked as if there was a roller blind in place previously but had been removed. I resorted to hanging towels on coat hangers to block the view. Felt very uncomfortable using the toilet. The integrated fridge door had become detached from the outer door which again was irritating. The biggest niggle was the poorly maintained decked area. Several of the planks were warped and sticking up. All three of us without exception tripped as some point. The wall mounted baskets looked like they had been there for several years and were woody and unloved. There was no parasol for the table and with record heat itâs a small thing that would of helped greatly. As the apartment cost over £2000 for the week these are things you should be corrected. The hilly position would be of concern to some people, fine for us but should be noted if you are less mobile.
