What our customers say about their holidays

The Old Mill is a unique property if you are looking for something slightly out of the ordinary.
Seeing how the property was renovated around the mill equipment was a treat. There is a booklet at the property created by the owners detailing the renovation and we found it interesting to see how the property was turned into a holiday property from almost nothing. The property is across a yard from the owners. We heard no noise from the owners or anyone else - just some cows mooing occasionally. So this was great for us as we do like peace and quiet when we are away. We found the main bedroom bed comfortable - we slept well in it. The bathroom and shower both had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The kitchen was well-equipped with all of the cooking implements and utensils that we wanted. We were provided with items such as liquid hand soap, dishwasher tablets, tin foil and kitchen roll (which not all cottages provide!). The only thing that was disappointing was that the fridge was the smallest fridge we have experienced in a property. We found that it was big enough to contain two days' worth of food (for only two adults). So we had to plan to go to the supermarket every couple of days - otherwise all of the food might not have fit into it. The property was also clean and tidy. We stayed in the property in November and there were a couple of mornings and evenings when we found it quite cold. There is a log burner in the lounge and the owners provided two electric heaters and we did use all of these; however, the property did take a while to heat up and I'm not sure that I would describe it as the warmest place we've stayed. We had a small problem with the wifi, but Steve was ever so helpful. He had a lovely attitude and was responsive and positive - he genuinely seemed to care whether we were enjoying our stay - so thank you for that! Overall, it's a great property if you are looking for peace and quiet in an unusual building.

We had a very bad experience, after experience staying at this cottage.
Before I go further I wish to say that the owner did compensate us a small refund, but I feel unless money is spent to improve the property it should not be rented out. Previous comments have also mentioned the property requires some care and attention. We couldnât gain access and required a locksmith. The caretaker was unavailable, surely they are paid to be available especially on changeovers. The lights had all tripped. Questions-Do the electrics need checking? The property was not clean. Dead moths and flies on the windowsill, old dirty towel and used tissues left in the bedroom. Had to sweep out the kitchen. These issues I know can be addressed, as could the dirty stained shower curtain. The windows were filthy on the glass, black mould around them, bathroom window fell out on one windy night, due to age and lack of maintenance. Requires a new bed in one of the rooms as frame is broken and bed is supported on a pile of books. Plumbing mentioned in other reviews, but this is loud, so loud in fact that the neighbours could here it. Holiday not helped by the building work opposite, which I understand has gone on for a couple of years. We couldnât get out one day due to scaffolding lorry. Nothing anyone can do about that. Generally needed a coat of paint and a deep clean. On the positives the settees were comfy and the kitchen was bright and well equipped. Until Sykes have evidence that these issues have been resolved, I feel there is a health and safety issue at the property. .

We had a lovely few days in the Cow Shed, using it as a base to explore the area.
Itâs brilliantly quirky, has a MASSIVE reception room for the number of beds, a well equipped kitchen and a largish enclosed garden (note it has a wide metal gate to the garden next door so enclosed but not private). The description isnât accurate on a few points and needs reviewing & updating with a few more photos - the spiral staircase to the loft is in the bedroom and is steep and narrow, plus the loft is also open to the lounge so be aware of a lack of privacy and noise travelling from the kitchen/lounge to the loft. The garden was bigger & better than expected with great views, but unfortunately the outside bath/shower werenât working, nor was the hob in the garden kitchen area. Also the foosball table is hidden away in the field and in poor condition. The directions were great making it easy to find, though trying to find the non existent key safe was a little confusing. Communication with the owner was good, there were a few bulbs out and they got these sorted quickly and at our convenience. Summary: A few things stop it being brilliant, rather than just good - we will consider going back as a couple with dog rather than with friends, or if there is a larger group renting some of the other properties at the same time. Thank you for a nice stay.

There were positives and negatives.
Positives: The quietness was wonderful and the space. Negatives: 1.The place was unloved. 2.The furniture was in dis-repair I took loads of photo's to share, but not sure where to post. The cutains were ripped and two chairs and a sofa were all ripped open. 3.All the kitchen equipment had to be cleaned before use .The tin opener was broken and no cork screw. 4.No welcome on a arrival only a man stuck his head out of the car to say enjoy when we arrived. 5.There was no allocated bin for our rubbish and all the other bins were spilling over with beer cans. 6.There were beer cans on the field in front of our sccommadation. 7.The outside bath wasn't working and it had green algae inside the bath. When I turned the water on the pipe had burst and water was everywhere. 8.The outside was totally over grown with weeds and the outside kitchen was filthy dirty you couldn't cook anything. 9.The barbaque had old coals inside and was rusty. We paid £640 for the stay ....such a disappointment we were so looking forward to resting in luxury after working for a year without a holiday .We will not be returning

This was our second visit to the Court House.
We just love it. It is so peaceful and well equipped and has lots of charming features. We did our supermarket shopping in Haverford West before we arrived as we knew that food shops are scarce in that part of Pembrokeshire . You can order and collect a lovely seafood platter from Mrs Wills the Fish in Upper Solva. Book a table for lunch at The Shed at Porthgain for another seafood treat. For local crafts visit Bobbie Jacobs at Solva Pottery. They have been there for many years, make interesting pots and jewellery and have a range of antiques. Window on Wales is great for souvenirs and clothing. The Woolen Mill has very high quality rugs, clothing and locally produced products. And of course there are the beaches and coves, the spectacular scenery and the coastal paths for those who don't mind climbs and heights! Coming back to Court House after a day out is bliss.
