What our customers say about their holidays
Peter - Verified booking
Me and my wee Border Terrier, Wor Bob, arrived at The Maple, Cloughton at around 3:30pm.
There was a nice parking spot for my car. Upon entering the property, I knew straight away we were going to enjoy our stay. The lodge / caravan was very clean and tidy and we were greeted with wonderfully thoughtful gifts from the owners, Martin and Alison, including a bottle of fresh farm milk in the fridge, a box of two beautiful fresh cream and jam scones and a bag of treats for Bob ( they has even supplied a small dog bed and food bowl, should we have needed them ) The lodge was extremely warm and cozy and there was a " throw " on the settee and I had brought another, to ensure the furniture was protected if Bob had jumped up. The shower was very good and the bedroom was spotlessly clean ( I slept excellently in the comfy bed ) There was a big TV in the lounge area of the open plan room ( as well as a wal mounted TV in the double bedroom ), great wifi, an excellent electric fire ( which we never really needed ) and a very good gas central heating system. The kitchen area had everything we needed and all the appliances etc. were of a very good and well maintained standard. I had a nice chat with Martin, when I spotted him outside and called him over to introduce myself. He, and Alison, were lovely warm hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They kept their distance but were always at hand if we needed them. The perfect hosts. Martin gave me some great tips on places to visit and recommended eating and drinking spots ( we were directly opposite a pub restaurant and next door to a farm shop ) We visited Scarborough and had a wonderful walk around Peasholm park and a stroll along the beach. We had a day in Whitby and we enjoyed many wonderful walks with fabulous, panoramic views of the coastline. The nearest shop, a Tesco Express, was a five minute drive down the road in Burniston. We enjoyed a lovely drink in THe Red Lion pub in the village. The whole week was excellent, Everything was as we had hoped it would be and we will definitely be returning.I highly recommend this lovely holiday home.

When we arrived at The Maple (after driving past a couple of times as quite the hidden gem) we were were all really pleased with the surroundings, the welcome and the accommodation.
Martin & Alison are extremely good hosts. Everything you need is in The Maple. They are thoroughly knowledgable about the area - gave us excellent directions and suggestions for cycling (we are 2 adults, a teenager and a 4 year old who was on her WeeRide for the first time) - we chose The cinder track twice - 3/4 mile easily walking distance and cycling. We also walked to the local pub (not the one over the road the one in the forest/plantation) to have tea via the road and cinder track. We also went to Robins Hood Bay which was about 20/25 mins away. The location is excellent. We could have stayed longer and will definitely be rebooking - we want to do Dalby Forest which is also In easy reach. All in alol a definite ideal place which helped us get over the disappointment of having Mallorca cancelled due to COVID-19. We would book the same accommodation but would try to get next door which has a hot tub first But not for pets and we took our pooch. We also received a Lovely welcome pack - an artisan loaf, jams, strawberries, cream and a fruit cake, even Baxter the dog got a welcome pack of treats! Have no doubts about booking here - get your waking boots, bike and get yourself off - youâll love it!

A nice cottage situated in an area that we know and like - fantastic butcher (Radfords) and bakers (Bothams) close by.
And also close to all the places we love - Goathland, Whitby etc. Neighbour was friendly and welcoming. Quiet area, no disturbance. The cottage was comfortable and looks to have been well equipped. However some things were a little tired - frying pans worn out, poor knives (all blunt), loose taps. Oven was a bit greasy and smoky when we first used it. The outdoor wheely bin was full on the day we arrived (Friday) with collection not being until the following Thursday. Also no black rubbish sacks in the kitchen. The bathroom was probably our biggest disappointment - noisy fan (as per previous reviews), very low pressure in the shower and worst of all the bathroom smelled very damp and musty. The cottage wasn't brilliant for us as we do a lot of outdoor walking in all weathers and there was no outside tap to clean boots and very little space inside the front door to take off/dry footwear and coats. It all got a bit busy and complicated! Overall though it was 'good' and sufficient, just not very good or excellent. It could be a lot better quite easily with just a little effort.

Positives. Refurb excellent, good use of space, internet fast and reliable, TV was great, didn't use the bedroom one. Furniture and bed comfortable. Position of cottage amazing, views great, soap opera with the car park. Nice yard outside, but shared, so not sure how that works in the summer, but is dog friendly. Great position and access to amenities, lots of walking. Negatives. Needed a good clean, rooms have edges and corners, and under furniture. Shower cubicle, although the shower was excellent, needed a good clean. Bed, although comfortable, was huge, and I had to buy a pillow, as those supplied were too hard. A teapot or cafetieire would be good, I took my own, as would a tea towel. Items had been left in the fridge, not acceptable. Wouldn't recommend to those with any mobility problems, lots of small steep staircases. Parking a real issue, parked up by the Abbey, car parks expensive, if you can get a space, W scratch cards puzzling, and no space there either. Noise every time next door have showers.

We arrived late in the evening due to unseen circumstances, but every thing was set up for us.
...including a basket and treats for the pooch. There was a home made scone each with individual cream and jam which was very welcome with a cup of tea, we felt really welcome within the first 15 mins. Every utility we needed for a week was present including bedding, toiletries, Wi-Fi was fast and had a strong signal, the 2 TVs present (living room and bedroom) worked perfectly. There is a pub just outside the gates of the property that serves 5 star food, the landlord is very welcoming and a fountain of knowledge about the local area and where to go. You are within easy reach of the North Yorkshire Moors and the Heritage coast, we spent the week exploring them and never had to go the same place twice. The chalet we stayed in is about 2 miles from the nearest facilities but was in a nice cosy setting in the country with great proprietor,s on a working farm. We highly recommend a stay, it was everything we wanted and arrived home refreshed and feeling like we had had a holiday 5*
